Ugh - Why am I awake?
The last couple nights I've apparently been having alarm anxiety. The night before last, I woke up about every half hour after 2:25 and felt like I had to check my alarm for fear that it hadn't gone off and I was late. This morning, I did it at 5 (even though I don't have anywhere to be...it being Sunday morning and all...) At 7, my darling one turned over and asked if I was doing that alarm checking thing. He was concerned but unfortunatly, if someone speaks to me at a normal waking up time (like 6:30 - on) I can't get back to sleep. So here I am blogging at 8:16 when I should be dreaming of dual milk Robiola. Sigh.

Dinner with Mary the other night was delicious. We went to Trattoria la Siciliana on College. In attempting to find a link, I happened on a number of reviews that lauded the amazing, authentic flavors and ripped the service a new one. Apparently, many people have had incredibly long waits only to have their table given away to friends of the owner who were also served free wine in front of them. Ouch. We knew it would be busy so we went about a half hour after their opening, were brought right upstairs and had our antipasti within about 20 min. Two things were surprising to me about the cheese plate. One, that ricotta salata is tasty on its own. Second, the mozzarella was seasoned with salt and pepper and it was delicious. I'm not a pepper fan but it was great. We shared a gorgeous plate of linguini with tomatos and some fresh mozzarella and basil. So easy, so delicious. That took forever to arrive but it's not like we went there on our way to the theater.
Mary gave me more great tips about cooking. I was complaining about my difficulty finding a steamer basket for veggies and she said "why don't you just saute them?" Oh yeah - I can cook them with olive oil and garlic. Der. Fuck steamed vegetables. Fuck them right in their tuber! Oh and we talked about roasting veggies too. Mmm..Roasted Potatoes.
In my quest for more food knowledge, I bought the special food issue of Real Simple. It's particularly fucking awesome because it has this chart (it looks like a cute period table of the elements) that tells you how long every vegetable and fruit keeps and how it should be stored. BOMB. It appears that I'm not the only one concerned about buying a lot of expensive fresh stuff and having it go bad.
Speaking of going bad...my refrigerator is a mean appliance. We come home last night, Dear One is putting some things away in the fridge and says "uh oh."
Everything is room temperature. The door doesn't always close all the way no matter how hard I push it. Bye bye leftover soup, one italian sausage, some bacon, some cream cheese, an entire bag of now meltey/moist mozzarella and another bag of shredded cheddar.
FUCKERFAN.
So about 20 minutes later, I decide to check the freezer because it has been a problem before. ALL MY MEAT IS ROOM TEMPERATURE. I google searched "refreeze thawed meat" and discover that if it's still refrigerator cold, I can freeze it again. No dice. This shit is done. 4 big italian sausages and an entire package of chicken breast. What is that? $15? DAMN! HORSESHIT POOP AND DAMN!
So that sucked. BUT...I cooked again.
This time, I made a savory french toast with new cheddar cheese and (a bit too much - cough, gack!) garlic salt! I documented the process with my $10 (no joke) digital camera key chain. All the pictures come out looking like they've gone through the impressionist painter filter in photoshop. I like it. It's arty.

In the few entries, this has gone from being a singer blog to a food neophyte blog. Brief update: singing blows because reflux has thrashed my singermachine and Barnes and Noble has not only broken my spirit but sucked me of all my physical energy. Must practice many times this week. Many. Many.
