So I finally broke down and watched Avatar last night, because lots of people told me it was pretty and this dude I've been seeing wanted to watch it. I actually enjoyed it more than I expected to, despite the fact that the plot is basically Everything I Hate In a Movie Plot. (A general rule of thumb for me & movies: If at any point in the movie there is an overhead shot of groups of people dramatically marching/riding towards each other, I will probably hate it.)
Some thoughts behind the LJ cut because they are maybe spoilery?
Did anyone else think the dragon taming scene was a little, uh, rapey? In a "I will hold you down and stick my head thing in your head thing way"?
My favorite part about the movie (other than the shiny-pretty) is that Jake has a big-ass tribal tattoo on his shoulder. Cause firstly, it assumes that people are still getting tribal tattoos umpty thousand years in the future, and secondly, dude, total foreshadowing of him going all native, right?
As a final note, I leave you with
This awesome comparison of Pocohontus and Avatar
