Jane Costello's Girl on the Run is hilarious. I was a little dubious since I thought My Single Friend, the only other Costello book I've read, was rather cliche (Don't get me wrong, it was still a fun read). But Girl on the Run is far from cliche. The plot is original, if sometimes a tad predictable, and I love that it isn't JUST about girl guy relationships (or even gal pal relationships). When Abby's friend becomes ill, it adds realism to the story. Abby cares about more than just her friends and men, something that is often lacking in some of the chick lit I've read. Sure, she only knows something about the disease because her friend is diagnosed with it, but she still sticks to her fundraising and fitness goals, despite how tough it is, because she truly cares. Add to this that starting out, Abby isn't your typical has-everything-and-is-gorgeous-and-in-awesome-shape lead female character. I'm GLAD she isn't fit to begin with- it makes the reader feel like they can also achieve if they stick to it, even if they're not naturally fit.

Abby's relationships, both with men and with friends, are comical and keep you turning pages. Her caring attitude makes her endearing to the reader, and her go-get-em spunk is inspiring. Overall, a light and fun read but one that won't leave you feeling like you wasted the time it took to read.
