Kristallnacht
Kristallnacht, also known as the night of the broken glass, Reichskristallnacht,
Novemberpogrome, and Pogromnacht was a very tragic pogrom against Jews throughout
Germany and Austria on the night of November 9-10, 1938. Jewish homes and stores
were destroyed in a thousand German cities, towns, and villages. Ordinary citizens and
storm troopers annihilated buildings with sledgehammers, leaving the streets covered in
shattered glass. The littered streets contributed to the name “The Night of the Broken
Glass”.
