I was just slightly chemically altered on the ride from Bard to Poughkeepsie. Just enough to make it among the most pleasant bus rides of my life, and just enough that--though I was gazing out the window the entire time, watching the mountains and the mountain towns streak by--I didn't notice that I was in fact being taken to Poughkeepsie, not Rhinecliff. After an incredibly frantic fifteen minutes of my life which included a strangled and superflous, almost cinematic scream of, "STOP THAT TRAIN!"...I ended up on the exact train I was intended for in the first place. I confess, I live a charmed life.
Now of course the charm beging to wear off...to chaffe against familial bonds and too-familiar stop signs. But so far, so good...my Buddhist sympathies remain in tact. Starting from the outside as I always do, so far I miss only the edges of Bard. Best part: I still feel like a normal human being.
Today we saw the ocean again. It didn't heal me much, but then, there isn't much to heal. The hacked-up knots that were my back muscles have mostly slithered apart, together, and back into place. My spirits are good, and if they go bad...well, there are spirits here to lift them. Friends to remember and while away relaxed hours with. No sex, but also no drama. La vie--c'est bonne.
