I have been running on the same route along the Thames at once or twice a week since I got here in late September. I get the ocassional stare or what have you, but not once have I gotten an inappropriate comment. Today, I got TWO blatant ones. The first was from a construction worker, who, when I ran past him, said "How you doin, girl?" and when I said good, he said "you sure are LOOKING good." Then I ran past three punks -- i mean real punks, with full on huge spiked mohawks dyed green - on hungerford bridge, one of whom yelled "Keep going, girl, you're nearly there! My house is just up there - run across the bridge and turn left!"

So that was odd. Even more so because they both called me 'girl.'

but my run today was odd for more reasons than just that ---
I also saw a fancy motorcade with police escort that was stopping traffic, and THEN when I came back down onto the Thames path towards the end of my run, I found that half the walkway had been shut down because they were shooting a film. It looked like rather a big budget one, too -- lots of people milling about, official looking signs, and the whatnot. lots of people with american accents. The film, ironically, was entitled 'Run Fat Boy Run', and the set was the end of a race or marathon of some kind, callde the Nike River Run with lots of official sponsorship signs and so on. This made it rather awkward to run past, because passerby were continually looking at me trying to figure out if I might be part of the film.

Few things are weirder than trying to finish the end of a run, knowing you look exhausted, running past the finish line of a fake race, with people looking at you like they half expect you to be a movie star.

The only weirder run I've had in London was the day that I went running right after the annual Great Gorilla Run, an event that I had certainly never heard of and only found out about when I proceeded to run by at least 40 people dressed in giant gorilla suits, ambling around talking to each other.
