As MOD, I'm invoking my MODly rights to do this...

I've seen these Drabble-a-thons around a lot lately, and I think they are a great idea. So... I thought why not do one for Sakura ships? I started to do this for myself a few months ago, trying to write a drabble for each Sakura ship. I didn't get very far, I'm sorry to say. But, I still think it' ( Read more... )

The First of Many - Shino/Sakura - G rosweldrmr June 26 2008, 16:37:57 UTC
It surprised her the first time Shino kissed her. They were on a date. He was shy and polite when he asked, and so full of sincerity she couldn’t say no. The way he turned one foot inward as he removed his sunglasses, squinting in the sunlight, and asked her if she would be interested in letting him escort her to dinner.

Sakura smiled, sweetly, full of pity and remorse for not returning the innocent, child-like intentions.

“Yes.”

It was a quiet date. They ate slowly, secluded in the back of the room. Tucked in a corner, candlelit table, and a wistful smile from the elderly owner who gave them a complimentary bottle of warm sake.

Neither one of them had the nerve to tell her that they didn’t drink. So, instead, it sat on the table, reflecting the candlelight as Sakura twisted it against the wooden table, felling the small flowers painted on the porcelain bevel under her fingertips.

He served her a sliver of beef, cooked over the open grill in the center of the table.

“Thank you.” She bowed her head to hide her blush at the awkward situation.

They ate in silence.

“Sorry,” Sakura apologized sometime later as he walked her home, “for not being better company. I don’t really, you know, do this much.”

“No.” Shino stopped and lightly touched her forearm, courteously demanding her attention. “It was my pleasure to take you to dinner, Haruno-san.”

She never noticed before the way his voice sounded when he spoke. Muffled from his jacket collar, but deep and churning. Like an ocean. Sakura smiled. It really had been a pleasant evening.

Shino stepped in, hesitant and fleeting. He bent his head, and turned into her. Still lightly touching her arm, and she let him, because it really had a nice evening, after all.

The fabric of his jacket touched her cheek, and as the sensation dipped lower, towards her lips, she let her eyes slip shut and leaned into him. His lips were dry, and pulled tight from nervous apprehension or inexperience, she wasn’t sure.

It was short, and she had to angle her neck to the side and up to accommodate him. It was chaste and timid, full of propriety and etiquette. And as he pulled back, she could see a pink hue color his pale cheeks.

She giggled, despite the fact that she hadn’t intended to like him. He was nothing like the picture her imagination formed when she used to dream of her first kiss. But, despite that, despite many things that made her broken and ill-fitted to these sweet, adolescence moments, she enjoyed his company.

It was purely accidental, purely mistaken coincidence, or misplaced enthusiasm that made her reach for him. Hands on his face, she pulled him back to her. And this time, his lips were soft and warm. Caught off guard, she managed to wrap her arms around his neck and pull herself flush against him.

Sakura decided she liked the way he was unsure and insecure. It was endearing and alluring, because he was safe.

That was the first of many dates.

I've never read shino/sakura before because I'm scared that it could be mistreated badly but you've done it really well
