Okay so I know I just wrote an entry, but I forgot to put something in and this is so important that it needs an entry all its own.
Okay. So the topic of this little tiny rant is called CIRCUSES.
Today, when my mom, Anna, and I were driving home from All-States, we stopped by Potomac Mills at Red Robin (SUCH GOOD SHAKES, LEMME TELL YA) for dinner and there was a small circus nearby (aka right outside Red Robin). So I, of course, got really fired up about animal cruelty and whatnot with circuses (OH. BARNUM AND BAILEY NEED TO BE SMACKED. HARD.), but you know, not all circuses necessarily HAVE animals, so I wasn't THAT worried. And then we were in our car leaving Red Robin and we were driving past it and there were all these signs advertising human freak show thingies so I was like, "Okay well that's fine then..." AND THAT'S WHEN I SAW IT. THE MOST HORRIFIC THING I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY ENTIRE LIFE EXCEPT FOR VARIOUS COLLEGE DENIAL LETTERS.
There was an elephant.
But not just any elephant. Oh no no. This particular poor mistreated probably badly hurt crippled elephant was dressed up with all these stupid tassles and a bridle and there were steps next to him/her and CHILDREN WERE RIDING HIM/HER. I literally almost got out of the car. I don't think I've ever been that furious in my entire life (except for the time when I went to get a bowl of Reeses Puffs (MY FAVORITE CEREAL EVER) and the box was empty. Oh cruel, cruel world...).
This experience, combined with the dissection of fetal pigs in AP Bio (which I refused to participate in...poor Basil) has only reinforced my reasons for becoming vegetarian. Harming animals is disgusting and if any of you out there are harming animals on purpose, I am not your friend any longer, if I even was to begin with. AND IF YOU SO MUCH AS THOUGHT ABOUT RIDING THAT POOR MISTREATED ELEPHANT THIS WEEKEND, YOU ARE GOING TO GET A VERBAL BEATING ON MONDAY.
That said, thanks for reading my "short" rant! SPREAD THE AWARENESS!! DON'T GO TO CIRCUS!!!
Oh and while I was fuming in the car, my mom told me that she took me to a circus when I was like three or four and I refused to ride the elephant. Good for my little self. Even at that age I was aware of the abuse that was being inflicted on that poor misguided creature.
SAVE THE CIRCUS ANIMALS!!!
