Ni hao from HK

In HK! A week has past since I've gotten here and I have about a week and a half until I leave. It is actually quite cool here compared to the previous times I've come here. About 28ish celcius here. Convert it yourself. Cool weather is probably due to the rain. No typhoons but drizzles a lot, with some heavy rain and some sunshine.

Went shopping today. Was in quite a bad mood. In a crowded city like this, and on the weekend, everyone comes out so its impossible to walk anywhere. I've decided that on the weekends, I will not shop anymore. Leave the shopping for the weekdays when everyone's at work. Went to HMV (I think it stands for Home movie video or something like that) to buys cds and dvds. Everything there was sooo expensive! I didn't buy anything. Was tempted to buy a Jay Chou cd (I've decided that he's quite hot) but decided that I should just go back to CD Warehouse (where I bought my other cds) since they are a lot cheaper than HMV.

Total Haul this trip so far:
2 skirts
1 shirt
2 manga (Penguin Kakumei 1 (sooo cute!) and DN Angel 11 (been waiting for this forever!!!))
1 Boa cd
1 Hamasaki Ayumi CD (Remix 5 i think...bought it out of curiosity)
1 Amuro Namie Cd (luv it!)
1 Kelly Chen Cd (disappointed with it. didn't have the song I wanted...><)
1 cute seal (for PM of course. Still need to do more friend shopping) and...
1 DVD. Initial D Live Action, chinese style, starring Jay Chou.

I was surprised to see that they had come out with a Chinese make of a Japanese anime street racing series. Again, out of curiosity, I bought it. And was very surprised of how they made they made the movie. They actually kept "Fujiwara Tofu" on the side of the car, in Japanese!!!! The subtitles of for all the names were the Japanese names too! Not some funky Chinese interpretation of them. Jay Chou makes a very good and very cute Fujiwara Takumi. The guy that got to play Takahashi Ryousuke was very cute too. Edison Chen. XD

Of course the movie isn't exactly like the series. They compressed the first 3 seasons into 2 hours, so of course some things got edited and others cut. Some of the major things are like how Takahashi Kyousuke and Ryousuke were compressed into one being, Ryousuke. And Bunta became a drunk? Wasn't too happy about that. Also Iketani and Kenji were cut and all squished into Itsuki. The Mako & Sayuki race was cut (the movie was all guy racers). Not 86 Levine vs. Trueno race. But the Emperor races were kept, and done quite well, even though they were changed. There was a very cool crash scene. It was sooo cool to watch. The whole thing with Natsuki was kept, much to my disappointed. I wouldn't have minded if they cut her all out. But overall, I really like the movie. Val, when you come back from Berkeley, we'll have an Initial D fest. You should watch it. XD

Well, on another note, something I've noticed about Hong Kong people (well something I've known for a while but it was blaringly obvious this time around) is how short everyone is. My mom joked that I've been standing up a lot straighter now because I want to be the tallest person on the street. The sad thing is that most of the time I am. ^^;; Most of the girls are shorter than me. There are some girls my height and some taller than me (mostly white chicks) but not many. Most guys are my height. Actually I've noticed that there are quite a few that are shorter than me by a bit. It makes scoping out guys hard when you hafta look down on them. XD I usually notice it when there are people taller than me, since I'm looking for them. There aren't many people 6 feet tall here. And if they're that tall, 99% of the time, they're white.

Also the lack of racial diversity here sorta has me creeped out. I'm so used to walking down the street and seeing Asians, Caucasians, Hispanics, etc... that all the Chinese people has me really freaked out. I don't think I've seen a black person my whole time here. @.@ But I've seen a lot more white people than I have seen in my previous trips. I guess its because of all the business that goes on here in HK. All the white people I see are walking around in suits too, unless its the weekend like today and everyone is out shopping. It is the weirdest thing to walk down the street, or to sit on a bus and then here somebody having a conversation in English, since Cantonese is the norm here. What's even weirder is when you look at who's speaking in English, and see that it two Asian people. Makes me wonder if they're like me, from a different country, coming back for a visit. According to my aunt, my brother and I stick out like a sore thumb, even though we're black haired brown eyed like everyone else here. Supposedly we have this aura that scream "Westerner. Not from here. Banana! Yellow outside, white inside! Try and con them into buying this!!" I don't know how many times I gotten a flyer shoved in my face. Its worse than walking down Library Walk and through Price Center in UCSD.

Had a very nice fish and some yummy scallops for dinner tonight. They were fresh. Saw them swimming about before we killed them and bought them. Yesterday had these humongus shrimps. Or rather supposed shrimps. They did not look like shrimps to me. They actually scared the willies out of me. >< I thought they looked like bugs. Was afraid to touch them. They also were live until my uncle threw them into some boiling water. Then they were yummy, after someone helped me open them. Even when they were dead, I was creeped out. Did not want to touch them. But yummy with a chili - soy sauce mixture.

Saw a cage of frogs in the Supermarket butcher area. Saw someone pick some out to buy. Then saw the butcher chop them up. ><

Eaten some weird fruit here. And yummy fruit. Dragon fruit, or something like that, is not yummy. It looks cool, but is basically tasteless. www.sixthseal.com/ 2003_09.html

Star fruit is tart and yummy. http://candles.genwax.com/candle_scent/___0___star_fruit.htm

Custard apple is sweet and seedy. My aunt stole and ate the one I left to finish today. >< http://www.melissas.com/images/products/56a.jpg

Going to see a giant Buddah tommorrow. Not very excited. I'm sure it'll be long, hot trip, and when we get there, we'll be done in like 20 minutes, which is probably a fraction of the time spent to get there. And I'll probably we a walking buffet for the buggies. Must go armed with bug spray. Hope it doesn't rain. Or if it does, that we'll be indoors.

Email me!!!!

Testing out this tag thingy...does someone wanna help me out? I don't really get what the tags are for...
