[Background]
Since there's a clear connection between Crystal Shards and Kirby Dream Land 3 (due to the appearance of Zero in both games), I'm going to start telling this story from Dream Land 3 and then move to Crystal Shards. I'll probably add the plot to Dream Land 1 and 2 when i have the time. Also, the following text contains spoilers for the games, so, read it at your own risk.
Kirby's Dream Land 3 stars of with Kirby and his friend Gooey fishing, when a meteor crash-lands on Pop Star. Pop Star is the place where Kirby lives and where Dream land is located. Even though Kirby isn't from there, originally, he took on the duty of protecting it. Due to that, him and Gooey go investigate the meteor and find out that it's the work of Dark Matter, an entity that always seem to be causing Dream land lots of trouble.
To stop Dark Matter, Kirby needs to collect the Heart Stars with the help of his friends, Rick the hamster, Coo the owl, Kine the fish, Chuchu (which is a kind of pink blob), Nago the cat, and Pitch the bird. In order to collect the Heart Stars, Kirby needs to take on a variety of tasks, like collecting flowers, fending a specific type of enemy and helping out other Pop Star inhabitants.
With all the Heart Stars in hand, Kirby goes to Dedede's castle and, after fighting him, he gets the king rid of his possession, what causes the figure of Zero to emerge from his body. It is then revealed the Zero was the one behind the 'return' of Dark Matter, and is actually controlling it. With the power of the Love-Love Stick that's generated by the unision of all the Heart Stars, Kirby finally defeats Zero at the Hyper Dimension.
Or, so he thinks.
Some time passes and, on a planet not far from Pop Star called Ripple Star, an invasion is taking place. It seems like Dark Matter is at it, again, taking control of Ripple Star and planning on taking over all the other planets close to it. The thing is, this time, it isn't Dark Matter who's behind all that. It really is Zero, or rather, his revived self, 0². His main aim is to suffocate and suppress all happiness in the universe, since he himself can't feel it.
When he takes control of Ripple star though, a small fairy called Ribbon tries to run away with the Power Crystal, the only weapon capable of destryoying him. Naturally, 0² sends his minions to chase after Ribbon and, ultimately, they break the crystal in many pieces that scatter all over the universe.
Ribbon ends up landing on Pop Star, on an open field not too far from where Kirby is, as he's enjoying the starry sky and watching the falling pieces of crystal cross the sky, thinking they are just falling stars. She tells him about her misfortune and he agrees on helping her out. So, his mission is to retrieve the Power Crystal parts and rid the universe from 0²'s domination.
On the way, Kirby meets up with his friend Waddle Dee, a girl named Adelaine and, ultimately, King Dedede. All of them agree on helping him out on his journey, when Kirby gets them rid from the Dark Matter posessing them, with Dedede being the only one to be a little bit reluctant about joining his 'rival'.
With all the Power Crystal pieces at hand, Kirby and his friends head to Ripple Star, which seems to be filled to the brim with enemies created by Dark Matter, specially at the castle. After defeating Miracle Matter, Kirby thinks they finally did it, only to find out that O² had been using the queen's body as a vessel. His disguise is revealed by the Power Crystal itself, which emits a powerful light and rids the queen's body from the ominous being, creating the Dark Star, a planet where 0² is resting, waiting.
Kirby and the others go to dark star and, with Ribbon's help, Kirby uses the Power Crystal to create a weapon that shoots crystal shards and, ultimately, defeats 0² for good, restoring peace and harmony to the universe once more. This time, probably for good.
[Personality]
Kirby has a nice, positive aura all around him. He's rarely upset, unless 1) he's reeeeeally hungry or 2) you hurt him or one of his friends. As long as you act nicely around him, or he's properly fed, he's probably going to be nice all the time. He's also always willing to lend a helping hand to people in need, even if he just met them. He can also bond with animals pretty easily, and seems to enjoy their company a lot.
He sometimes acts like a child, but it's clear that he's no child, age wise, considering his fighting abilities. Because of that, he can be sort of naive and might act by impulse, sometimes not really thinking before acting (what leads to huge misunderstandings).
Also, he's constantly hungry, and will eat just about anything. He's specially fond of sweets and tomatoes, but anything goes when it comes to filling his belly. He also loves sleeping, but will be ready for action any time, when his help is needed.
He's also easily impressed and/or distracted, despite all the things he had already seem and that he can do, so, if you happen to do some magic tricks or something, he might stare at you in awe, like it's the most incredible thing ever and will be highly distracted by it too.
[Specialties/Abilities]
Kirby's main ability is to inhale things. When he does that, two of the following can happen: said thing can be turned into a star that he then shoots from his mouth; or he can swallow that thing and copy it's natural 'ability'. For instance, if he happens to swallow a rock, he can turn into a solidified version of himself, and will be turned back to normal when he wants to or when something hurts him.
Such copy ability is possible because, as far as it's known, Kirby's insides hold an alternate dimension, which might turn things into stars, if Kirby so wants. That also explains his constant hunger, since he has, literally, a black hole for a stomach.
It must be noted that, when Kirby copies an ability, his appearance doesn't change much depending on the power he gets, so, he can always be hiding some special power behind his cute face. Also, when he joins his animal friends, he seems to create am unusual bond with them, which transfers the power to them, giving them unique abilities. It's not known if such connection is possible with other creatures or humans.
Also, he can inflate his body and fly for some time, but will start deflating after a while, losing altitude and, finally, reaching the ground. He can stay airborne just for a couple of seconds (something around 10-15 seconds), but that's more than enough in some situations.
And, when in the water, Kirby can expel air from his mouth in the form of a little 'fountain' that might hurt some small creatures, but won't be any good against bigger ones or anything with a heavier armor. This is one of the reasons why Kirby isn't exactly 'eager' about swimming, if he has no special power on him.
[Affection]
Kirby will LOVE to get affection! Since he's a little bit childish and naive, all displays of affection will be welcomed with a smile and cute sounds <3 Hugs and kisses will make him smile (and kisses might make him blush *haha*)
[Fighting]
Don't be fooled by Kirby's cute face. The pink puff ball can fight, and quite well. He will never pick up fights with people though, unless he reason a good reason to. But keep in mind that he has a tendency to jump to conclusions too fast and might start a fight out of nowhere if he thinks you are bothering his friends or something. If you decide to fight him, be warned that he won't hesitate to fight back, and careful with his hidden special powers (because not all of them make the color of his skin change, so...)
[Other Permissions]
Telephatic characters are free to read his mind, specially ebcause that would make it even easier for them to understand what message Kirby is trying to convey. Also, no death with this charactr, please. Oh, but you are free to injure him. Just talk to me before so then i can give you the proper 'green light' XD
[Other Facts]
Kirby can't really talk, aside from some basic words like 'stars' and 'food'. although, it has been proved that he can repeat words that have been said to him, showing that he can actually learn how to talk fluently, if one decides to take the time and teach him how to (no one ever did though and Kirby himself doesn't really care about learning how to talk).
But only because he can't talk, that doesn't mean he can't express himself or that he can't understand what people say. He can write quite well and he's pretty good at expressing his emotions, despite his simple body. As for understanding people, he will understand every single world, even if he can't reproduce them.
