I <3 NY

Alternatively, "A Post Nathan Can Comment On with Relevance". :P

As some of you may know, my parents took my family and I to New York city this weekend. It was just... fantastic. XDDDD I love that city. So, because I love to talk about awesome stuff, I'm going to run you through my awesome trip! :D

Friday: Our plane left from Pearson at something awful like 7:30am, but because airports are whack, we had to leave my house at 3:30 AM. I had thought about not sleeping at all, but I got sleepy around 12, and went to bed. Woke up at 2 wiith the stark realization that I had forgotten to pack. -_-;; I'm smrt. So, I packed, and we left. Luckily, I am one of those people who can sleep in cars. And on planes. And trains. And subways. And boats. Actually, if it's moving and I'm not in control of it, I can sleep on it. I could probably sleep in a roller coaster if I was really tired. Oops. Tangent. Sorry. XD;;
Anyhoo, we got through airport security, despite the one women who seemed firm in her belief that I am a terrorist and wouldn't stop checking me. It was scary. T_T;;
We arrived La Gaurdia (the NYC airport) at about 9am. I was quite well rested XD. We didn't check any luggage so we managed to get out of there right quick. We got to our hotel, The Broadway Plaza something or another (we tried to book into the hotel we stayed in when my mom Alison and I went, but it was full). It was really nice. It was on Broadway and 27th (I think) so it was in the Garment District *totally not a tourist. Cough*, and therefore it was a bit of a trek to the Theatre District (through a bit of the fashion district, so I got to admire all the shoes I will never be able to afford as I headed to buy merchandise I could barely afford. XD;;).
Anyhoo. My parents wanted us to go on this double decker tour bus, and while I'm not a huge fan of that sort of thing, I obliged (hell, they took me to NY. I was going to do pretty much anything). We sat on the top layer. Therefore, it was fricken' COLD. This took a good 2 hours, bringing us to about 12. On the tour, the guide had pointed out this pizzeria, which was supposed to be the "best" in the city. My brother decided we had to eat there. He didn't bother to remember where it was. So, we spent a good 2 hours wandering around searching for this bloody place. Actually, I love wlaking around that city because it's mostly on a grid, making it impossible to get lost if you have a map (which I did - I took one from the hotel :P) and there are so many interesting things to see it's hard to get bored. After a while we gave up and ate somewhere else (don't remember where, it wasn't important).
We went to check into our hotel now (we had only dropped our bags off before), and most of family was tired and wussy. But Coco and I decided to head towards the Theatre District and check stuff out. It was about 4, and we had a show at 7. We walked pretty far, getting almost up to Times Square, before needing to head back. We saw some really cute stuff (most of it wholesale only, unfortuantely) including this store that was selling the cutest jewelled hairclips. I couldn't get over how awesome they were (chea, too! :D). I wanted to buy a whole bunch and give them to everyone, but it was wholesale only, so you need this crazy tax card thing to buy them. T_T
Anyhoo, we turned back, only to get to the hotel and leave agian. It was Spamalot time, which brings us to Show One.
Spamalot: Hmm... see, I really, really liked Monty Pyton and the Holy Grail. While I'm not a huge Python fan, I like most Monty Python stuff. Flying Circus is the only sketch show I'll watch willingly and uncomplainingly. And Spamalot managed to keep that just plain silly humour. But it was kind of.. well, lame. The songs were added in poorly, and while they were funny, they weren't soemthing I really enjoyed listening to. The acting was good, the singing the good, but it was lacking soemthing.
Honestly, I spent most of the show wishing I had stayed in the hotel room and rented the movie instead. T_T;; Stupid parents wanted to see bloody Spamalot. -_-;; Oh well. My sister loved it, my mom loved it, my dad thoguh it was ok, so I oughtta just stuff it. XD;;
Actually, the worst thing about the whole show was the bloody audience. Look, assholes. We ALL know what's coming when Arthur gallops on with the coconuts. Cheering, screaming and laughing BEFORE the bloody dialogue starts just to prove you know what's going on DOES NOT make you look "cool". Everyone has seen the bloody film, give it up already. Losers.
But I did want to own the bunny slippers they were selling. XD Too bad the theatre was so crowded or I'd have bought a pair.

At this point we trekked back to the hotel and ordered a pizza. While I waited for the washroom, I was lazily fliping through the channels when I came across what has to be the absolute worst consequence of our culture's growing fascination with the Japanese culture: Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi. X0 Let's all go die now, OK?

Saturday: Yay! This was my favourite day! :D My mother, sister and I got out of the hotel at around 10:30, and headed, agian, towards the theatre district. We went into Macy's, which was having their huge flower show. The flowers were beautiful, but it was so crowded. T_T So we left. We also went into Sephora, which was cool (I was on a quest to find this flat iron that straightens wet hair. Sweet, eh?). And we went into countless broadway souvenir type stores, and ate lunch, before Avenue Q. time.
Avenue Q: was better than Spamalot. XD;; Unfortunately, alot of Avenue Q's brilliance comes from the humourous lyrics, but because I'd already heard it, alot of the humour was lost on me. The puppet thing was incredilby well done, though. Sometimes I even forgot the puppets had puppeters, and when I noticed them I was surprised. The whole thing was still very funny, though. :D I liked it alot. I love Trekkie Monster. XD;; Actually, one of the neatest things about Avenue Q was the use of flat panel screens hooked up to the sides of the stage, with little childrens' show stuff going on. (like, a bunch of kids saying to an animated scene of nightstands "Fivie Nightstands... 3 nightstands... ONE NIGHT STAND! :DD"). Once agian, I saw m=some merchandise I really wanted to own but couldn't get to because the theatre was so packed: an "It Sucks to be Me" t-shirt. XD;;

Afterwards, we explored some more (alas, I couldn't find the Food Emporium. I wanted to buy some raspberry gingerale and send it to Alison. And maybe give the ATM a shot. XD;;). We did more shopping (I found the hair straighterner in a drug store. I was muy excited. XD;;). Also, we went back into Macy;s to find a washroom and ended up finding the shoe section. Mel, do you remember those shoes you found for me in payless? The pink ribbon ones with the wedge heel? Seems you're quite the fashion maven, as they seem to be the biggest shoe trend this spring. I had to laugh when I saw an almost identical pair in Macy's for $145 USD. XD;; Suckers. Then we had some snacks and a cuip of coffee before it was show 3 time (this was supposed to be a surprise, but one of the customs officers saw the tickets and asked about it, so my mom had to tell us. XD;;).
"
Rent: I love Rent. This marks my third time seeing it. <--loser. I went in thinking "I've already seen it, it's great, I'll enjoy it but it won't be super exciting, it won't send shivers down my spine and I certainly won't cry when Angel dies". Boy, was I ever wrong. T_T;; It wasn't the Drew Lachay (sp?) cast. I'll talk to Nate and see what's going on (you'll know, I'm sure. XD)
A couple of things: They sped the whole thing up! I had no idea why, but all of the songs were going faster then they should've been. This caused some problems during La Vie Boheme - they even skipped some words!- and Angel was definitely breathless during Today 4 U. And Mark was an utter spaz. It was odd. The Maureen, though, was fantastic. She was so good. Joanne wasn't strong in the beginning, but she got much better (everyone seemed kind of nervous in the beginning. I wonder why?), so by Take Me or Leave Me she was doing really well. That song kicked ass. Roger was different from the last Roger I saw. I liked this guy's Light my Candle alot better. It was just good (and I really loved Another Day, but I always love that song XD;;) And- OMG! I just remembered! I think that the touring Angel was in the ensemble! :O I kept seeing this one dancer and recongnising him! and then, in the lobby, the ensemble was selling buttons and I kept looking at him, positive he was the old (and better) Angel. So! Does anyone who saw it in London remember who played Angel? I was too nervous to ask him if he was, but now I wish I had so I could've gotten his autograph. XD;; (btw, I bawled when Angel died. <--wuss).
Anyhoo, because I couldn't help it, I bought a sweetass Rent long sleeved tshirt (my excuse is that I've been looking for a long sleeved t for awhile now, but haven't been able to find a decent one). It says "no day but today" on the back, and that's just cool. :D
But get this! It's Broadway Likes To Raise Money for Shit month or something, so there was cool stuff like autographed posters on sale. And, for a twenty dollar donation, you could get your photo taken with Mark and Roger. XDDDDDD So my sister and I totally did it. <--knobs.
Inner Amanda: Ok, ok, I'm gonna be all cool and calm about this. XD;;
Roger: Hi, I'm Cary.
Amanda: Amanda. *shakes hand*
Inner Amanda: doing good, doing good, you're cool.
Photographer: Ok guys, get ready
Roger / Cary: *photo squeeze. You know the type.*
Amanda: SQUEEE! *big, goofy smile*
Inner Amanda: You blew it, loser.

At this point, we headed back to the hotel. My body was super tired but my head was really awake, so I was (again) flipping through channels while Coco as in the washroom (Burton and Dad were still out and mom was asleep in her room) when I came across the FMA dub. It was one of the best of the episodes that I've seen, but it was the dub! I was torn. Luckily, my sister came out of the washroom and we started talking about Rent so I turned it off.

Sunday: Check out day. T_T My sister and I went back into the theatre district to buy some posters (I got a Rent one and an Avenue Q "I am not a homowhatever!" one XD;;) and just explore some more. I loves it. XD Then, we had to leave. The only cool thing about that was mom had gotten a driving service (there are too many of us for a cab) to take us from the hotel to the airport, and it was a really sweet Lincoln Navigator. *drools* With a DVD player and great sound, to. *more drool*.

Anyhoo, that's it for my NY trip. Let's do a run down!
-I love America! They sell club soda (or "seltzer water") in cans and 1 litre bottles from vending machines!
-I love New York! It's on a grid and I never get lost.
-I hate America! They sell shitty real iced tea.
-I hate America! All their money is the same colour so I do things like use $50 bills to pay for a candy bar and a bottle of soda (er.. "seltzer water"). T_T
- I love Roger. It doesn't matter who palys him, or how good or bad (well, to an extent. If he's really bad, I'd hate him) or ugly or hot the actor is, if he plays Roger, I love him.
- Everyone should shop at Payless Shoe Source
- I want to be a Broadway star. T_T
- If I lived in NYC, I'd be in really good shape, becaus it's so fun to just walk around.
