To Those of You Who Know Stuff About Computers (aka not me):Okay okay! I need to find a laptop to ask for for Christmas. If I'm not careful,. I could end up with something like... well, like the computer I have now. T_T I feel bad that I'm essentially getting it for free (yes, it's christmas and birthday, but so what? it's a fucking laptop!) so I ( Read more... )

Um..um... I'm not sure. Sometimes she's all like "I want to buy you the best EVAR so you won't need upgrades!" and other times she sees the gateway commercials for $999 laptops and she's like "you need one of those!" and I'm like o______O;;.
But $1700 sounds pretty good (in comparison to the one I like that Sony has which is clearly far too expensive. T_T)! Would one like that do these things?
1. Write / read CDs & DVDs (it doesn't necessarily need to write DVDs, that would be a nice bonus!)
2. Play games non-suckily (I don't know if you ever saw the Sims2 operate on my mum's laptop, but basically you had to have a gameboy/TV/book beside you so that you wouldn't go INSANE waiting for it to do shit). I'm not talking like Doom3 here (clearly, I get horribly schooled at any and all Doom games. Like the girl competing against Ken Jennings tonight. Just owned. So I won't need to play them).
3. Run more than one program at a time.
4. Not crash CONSTANTLY.
5. Basically, be better than the one I'm using now (not a big challenge).
6. I don't really understand the inerent at all. Can any computer be hooked up to any connection? So, like, I could just take one of those nice blue cables and stick it into the hub / router thinger in my basement, then plug in any computer and it would go online? Does it work like that?

you COULD get less than $1700.. but you'd start losing features very quickly. x_x;; Personally, I like the ASUS machines. :o In the end, it's all basically the same parts. XD it's just what sticker you get withit. :p

The one I custom built could fulfil all that stuff, although I'm unsure about burning dvd's.

6) yes maam. cat5 cable to the router, to the comp, bam internet. ^^;
