I went over to Michael's to see if I could find some nice frames for a gift I am giving away later this week. I was disappointed to find out that it takes them two weeks to get their custom frames back and that they had nothing suitable for a frame for the pieces - which are not standard size. I need to go to Wallack's Galleries on Tuesday and hope they can work some miracles for me for Wednesday when I want to give the gift.
I bought a few groceries from the Russian Deli nearby and then came home to saute zucchini and other veggies and cook up the yummy pelmeni (like perogies but better).
I went out to the garden to get some onions for this endeavour and when I looked at my nicely growning lettuce was shocked to see that it didn't exist anymore - groundhog attack!!. So I yanked out what was left (1") - too bad they weren't more efficient lawn mowers and just stuck to grass - and planted white onion sets. I also got rid of the cucumber plant after picking three more cucumbers (1 had two tooth marks in it from same groundhog) and planted more white onions in there. I moved things around and replanted the clover which was with the sage plant. Come September I will transplant the sage into one of the larger containers and try to winter it over in the container. I am starting to pick my herbs and freeze and dry them for winter use. As to Monsieur Groundhog I put out blood bone meal around the bases of all plants to dissuade it from nibbling the carrots and beets and to also prevent M. Groundhog's best friend, Monsieur Squirrel, from digging in the onion pots. He loves nothing better than replanting the onions upside down. This is after they have already started to come up. Sigh. Aggravating beasties.
Off for another soak.
