My life as Curb Your Enthusiasm

Aug 12, 2006 20:58

Alright...a cookie to the first person who can name the Curb Your Enthusiasm episode that mirrors this most recent family experience:

My mom, dad, and I go out for dinner at a local chinese food place.  My dad takes a seperate car and joins us late.  After dinner, my dad asks the owner (who to this point has been telling us his life story) if he had ice cream.  I respond: No! Let's go to Goodnose!
(Goodnose is a local ice creamery that is super famous in the area and is shutting down after 55 years, because the owner got a better deal on the land)

The Chinese food guy was like, "yes, you must go to Goodnose, they are shutting down soon".  My dad responds: What kind of ice cream do you like?
Chinese Food guy:" I love Rum Raisin.  I do not drink, or smoke...but I love that Rum Raisin"
Dad: "Rum Raisin? We'll bring you some!"
Chinese Food guy: "Oh, no no."

So we leave and go to Goodnose.  While waiting in line:
Dad: "We'd better get that guy the Rum Raisin"
Mom: "Wayne, No!  We're not bringing him ice cream!"
Dad: "We said we would.  The place is shutting down.  The ice cream will never be made again."
Mom: "You are NOT bringing that guy ice cream."

We do not get him ice cream.  However, we do enjoy ours.  Yum.  On our way back: my dad is talking about how awkward it will be seeing this guy at the restaurant.  We return to the restaurant where my mom's car is parked.
THERE HE IS. Standing outside by his motorcycle.

My mom gets out of the car to go to hers...my dad and I PEEL out of the parking lot.
Dad: "We're going to have to find a new Chinese food restaurant. That's it."

We get back home, and my mom tells us what she said to the guy, who was so obviously standing there:
Mom: "You should really get that ice cream before the place closes down.  The lines are so long"
Chinese Food Guy: "Yeah, I'll do that"
