Title: Memories of a Beautiful Disaster Chapter 1
Pairing: Adam Lambert/Rafael Vega (OMC)
Rating: PG
Warnings: mentions an attack, but not graphically
Disclaimer: I do not own Adam Lambert or any other real life people in this story. Rafi is mine though. This story is fictional and for entertainment purposes only.
Summary: Adam is very angry.
Author’s Notes: I had Kevin Alejandro (Jesus from True Blood) in mind as I was writing Rafi. When I first started working on the story, I had intentions of using some Spanish in the story. Rafi’s family is Mexican and Puerto Rican. However, I do not know very much Spanish, so I decided not to use it. It was really slowing down the writing process. The title is taken from James Durbin’s CD of the same name. I hope you all like it. Thanks for reading. Feedback is always welcome.
“Adam, I’d like you to meet Rafael Vega. He’s going to be your physical therapist.” Dr. Samuels explained as she leaned over Adam’s hospital bed.
Adam looked at the doctor and then the man beside her. He looked like he was in his late twenties, just slightly older than Adam. Rafael smiled at Adam. Adam rolled his eyes and said nothing.
Adam was twenty-four. He had been in L.A. for a few years when he was attacked outside of a gay nightclub. Adam wasn’t sure how many men had jumped him. He just knew that they had beaten him to within an inch of his life. He had more injuries than he could count including a brain injury. He’d been in a coma for almost a week. He’d spent the next several weeks having surgeries to repair some of the damage he sustained. He’d spent a few more weeks at the hospital recovering from everything.
Yesterday, Adam had been moved to a rehabilitation center. He had a long road ahead of him. He was going to have to learn to do everything again from feeding himself to walking. Besides the physical therapy, he had to see a counselor and a speech therapist. He had some slurred speech. Before the attack, Adam had been working on a demo. He dreamed of being a rock star. Now, he didn’t know if he’d ever talk normal again let alone sing.
Adam was angry all the time. He felt like he had just been starting his life when he was attacked. Now he had no idea what kind of life he was going to have. He might need someone to take care of him for the rest of his life. Some days he wished he had never survived the attack.
Because of his anger, Adam didn’t want to see anyone. Friends and family would come in, but never stayed long. His mother was the only one who spent more than a few minutes with him. He treated everyone else so badly that they left.
Adam hated that he acted so poorly. Before the attack, he had been the life of the party…the center of attention. He had loved to be around people, especially his friends and family. Now, he preferred to be alone. No matter how much he wanted to be like his old self, he was too angry and bitter.
“I’ll just leave the two of you to get acquainted.” Dr. Samuels spoke as she left the room.
“You can call me Rafi. It’s nice to meet you, Adam.” Rafi declared with a smile at Adam.
Adam said nothing and rolled his eyes again.
“Listen, I know that you’re angry, Adam. I get that, okay? You should be angry. What happened to you wasn’t fair. You didn’t deserve it…But you need to channel all that anger into something positive…something to motivate you to work your ass off to get better.” Rafi told him.
“Nice speech.” Adam responded sarcastically.
“It’s not just a speech. I want to help you. I can help you, but only if you want to be helped. You have to make the decision.” Rafi spoke sincerely.
Adam said nothing. He turned his head away from Rafi.
“Alright…I’m going to leave and let you get some rest. You think about what I said, Adam. I’ll be back tomorrow.” Rafi told him as he headed for the door.
