Author’s Notes: When
I wrote Unsent, I intended for it to be a one-shot. Once I finished it and posted it, I thought
that I should add a sequel. I hope you
enjoy it. Thanks for reading. Feedback is always welcome.
“Adam, is
there something wrong? You seem anxious
today.” The therapist inquired as she
led Adam into her office.
“His letter
got sent!” Adam exclaimed as he paced
around the room.
“Whose
letter got sent?” She asked calmly as
she sat down at her desk.
“Tommy’s.” Adam responded as he flopped down in the
chair.
“Why don’t
you start at the beginning and tell me what happened.” She encouraged.
“Well,
since out last session, I’ve been thinking about if I wanted to show any of
them the letters. I decided that it
wasn’t necessary to send Kris’, Brad’s, or Drake’s. They know what they need to know. Anyway, I didn’t sent Sauli the exact letter,
but I sent him a text message that basically said the same thing. He texted me back that he had needed to hear
those things. I think we might be able
to be friends at some point. We both
still need time. But with Tommy’s
letter, I went back and forth. Some
times I thought it would be good to send it to him…to finally have everything
out in the open. Other times I was sure
that it would be the biggest mistake of my life. I started like a million texts to him, but
never sent any of them. I almost called
him and confessed everything like twenty times, but I just couldn’t do it. Anyway, yesterday I put the letter in an
envelope and addressed it to him. I
wasn’t going to send it, but I got a phone call. When I got back to my desk, the letter was
gone. My mom had sent it out with some
of my other mail. It was too late to get
it back. He’s going to get it within the
next few days and everything is going to be ruined.” Adam explained near tears.
“Do you
really believe that everything is going to be ruined?” She questioned.
“Yes.” Adam replied simply.
“I want you
to think about all the things you wrote about Tommy. You said that he’s your best friend. If that is the case, do you really think that
you expressing your true feelings will make him run away from you?” She asked.
“No. Tommy won’t run away. I know that he’ll always be my friend. It’s just that if he knows how I feel and he
doesn’t feel the same, I don’t know what I would do. With it all out there, I don’t think that I
could stand to be just friends with him.” Adam told her.
“Well, I
can’t tell you how Tommy is going to feel, but I can tell you that the only way
to figure things out is to talk to him. You have to find out how he feels and what he wants…see if those things
match with your feelings and wants. If
they don’t, you and Tommy need to figure out what happens next.” She enlightened.
“I
know.” Adam whispered.
…the next day…
r u home? Tommy texted the next afternoon.
Adam looked
at the message for five minutes before he responded. yeah
good. coming over. we need to
talk. Tommy responded.
Adam stared
at Tommy’s second message as he paced around his house. Tommy must have gotten the letter. Adam was freaking out. He couldn’t tell from the message if Tommy
was angry or happy. Adam felt like he
was going to throw up.
Twenty
minutes later, Adam heard a knock on his door. He froze in place and stared toward the door. He thought it would take him longer to get
there.
“Fuck.” Adam breathed as he headed for the door.
As Adam
opened the door, he saw Tommy standing there. He was clutching a piece of paper in his left hand. It had to be Adam’s letter. Adam looked at his face for an indication of
what he was thinking and feeling. He
looked a little angry. However, Adam
could see the tracks of tears running down his face.
“Tommy,
I…” Adam started to say.
“Why didn’t
you…?” Tommy began to ask as he pushed
his way into Adam’s house.
“I can
explain.” Adam spoke quickly as he
backed up.
“Fuck
it!” Tommy declared as he shoved Adam
into the wall he had backed up against.
Tommy
pressed his body firmly into Adam’s body. He leaned up and captured his lips. He clutched Adam’s shirt in his right hand. His left hand still hung onto the
letter. Tommy pressed in further and
deepened the kiss.
Adam was
shocked. This was not the reaction that
he had been expecting. He had prepared
for an angry Tommy who would yell. He
had prepared for a sad Tommy who might cry. He had prepared for a confused Tommy who might have a lot of
questions. He had not prepared for a
willing Tommy who would push him into a wall and kiss him like his life
depended on it.
“You’ll never
lose me, Adam. Never!” Tommy stated as he broke the kiss and looked
directly into Adam’s eyes.
“Okay.” Adam breathed. His head was spinning. He was still trying to figure out exactly
what was going on here. Did Tommy want
to be with him? Did he just want Adam to
know that he wasn’t going anywhere no matter what?
“Fuck,
Adam, I love you so much. I’ve been in
love with you since the first tour. I
thought you knew that. I thought
everybody fucking knew that. I just
thought that you didn’t want me in that way.” Tommy explained.
Adam was
still leaning against the wall. He
figured that was a good thing. His knees
felt weak. Tommy was still right there,
but he wasn’t pressing into him anymore. He released his hold on Adam’s shirt. He gently placed his hand over Adam’s heart. He pressed his forehead into Adam’s
chest. Adam thought he might be
crying. Slowly, he brought his arms up
and wrapped them around Tommy. He
immediately sighed and snuggled further into the embrace. Adam kissed the top of his head.
“I love
you.” Adam whispered before placing
another kiss on Tommy’s head.
