Summary: Adam and Kris celebrate their 10th anniversary.
Adam was getting ready for the party. He couldn’t believe that he was celebrating ten years of marriage. He had never thought he’d be married nor have children. Despite all of this, he had a wonderful husband and two amazing daughters. He felt like the luckiest man in the world.
When he was finished getting ready, Adam went downstairs and discovered that some of the guests had already arrived. He was surprised that Kris hadn’t sent one of the girls to get him. Kris never came for Adam himself. He always sent one of their children because he knew that Adam couldn’t say no to them.
Just as Adam got to the bottom of the stairs, the doorbell rang. He smiled and went to answer it. As soon as the door was opened, a little blur went running pass Adam almost knocking him over.
“T.J., slow it down!” Allison shouted at her four year old son as he continued running through the house.
Adam smiled at his best friend. She had tried to keep up with her son, but she was seven months pregnant. It was getting harder everyday to keep up with the rambunctious child.
“Hola Mamacita…How are you doing?” Adam questioned as he gave her hug and kissed her cheek.
“Baby’s kicking up a storm.” Allison responded just as Adam felt a kick.
“Ad…Ad.” A little voice squealed suddenly.
Adam turned his attention to a very excited two year old girl who was trying to wiggle right out of Tommy’s arms.
“Izzy…Come here, sweetie.” Adam commanded as he reached out for the little girl.
Tommy gladly handed his daughter over before he dropped her. Izzy wrapped her arms around Adam’s neck and hugged him tight. She kissed his cheek and he kissed her forehead.
“T.J.’s running loose somewhere. I think he might have gone upstairs.” Allison told her husband.
“I’ll track him down.” Tommy replied leaning over to kiss Allison on the cheek.
Tommy headed upstairs in search of his son. Adam, Allison and Izzy made their way to the back yard.
Once in the yard, Adam realized that most of their guests were already there. Kris was talking to Cale. Karis was sitting with Kris’ parents. Adison was running around after T.J., who had apparently not gone upstairs like Allison thought. The rest of their guests were talking amongst themselves in small groups. Allison waddled over to join her parents. Adam strolled through the crowd to join Kris. Kris saw him coming and smiled at him.
“I didn’t realize that everyone was here. Why didn’t you get me? Actually, why didn’t you send one of the girls for me?” Adam asked as he put his arm around his husband and kissed his cheek.
“They were busy. Besides I knew that you wanted to look your best tonight, so I figured I give you some time.” Kris explained. “And you do look amazing by the way.” Kris gently kissed Adam’s lips.
“Thanks, baby.” Adam replied with a smile from ear to ear.
After that Adam and Kris made their rounds. They talked to everyone. They were both having a great time. They loved being surrounded by their family. They thought of everyone at the party as part of their family whether there was any blood between them or not. They had learned long ago that love made a family and there was plenty of love to go around.
Many of people in attendance were talented, so a small platform had been set up. Throughout the evening, several people graced the stage.
Adam and Kris were talking to Leila when they saw Karis walking up onstage. Tommy and Monte were following her with their guitars in hand. Everyone seemed to notice that the thirteen year old was up there. The chatter died down immediately. Karis took center stage and looked out at everyone. She didn’t show a hint of nerves.
“I want to thank everyone for coming to celebrate my dads’ tenth anniversary. I have a special present for them. It’s a song that I’ve been writing with Uncle Monte and Uncle Tommy.” Karis stated.
Adam and Kris held hands and watched their daughter. She was growing up so fast. She was a teenager and she looked like Katy with her long blonde hair. However, she had Adam’s gorgeous blue eyes. They still weren’t sure how that happened considering that there was no blood between them. She had also inherited their musical talent. She had been singing since she could talk. For thirteen, she had an amazing voice. She took after Adam, Kris thought.
“You held me when I was scared…And wiped away all the tears…You ran with me to chase fireflies…And tucked me in with lullabies…You taught me how to love…to always reach for stars above…Showed me just how to grow…Taught me everything I should know…Helped me walk without your hands...’Cause you’re the perfect Dads…You braided my hair…And held my hand when I pierced my ears…You listened to my hopes and schemes…And encouraged me to dream…You taught me how to love…To always reach for stars above…Showed me just how to grow…Taught me everything I should know…Helped me walk without your hands…’Cause you’re the perfect Dads…” Karis sang.
By the time the song was over, Adam and Kris both had tears in their eyes. Everyone clapped. Adam and Kris walked over to their daughter and captured her in a huge embrace.
“Karis, that was beautiful.” Kris told her as he kissed her cheek.
“You’re amazing.” Adam whispered as he kissed her head.
“Thanks. I love you guys.” Karis responded as he hugged her dads tighter.
“I have something for you too.” Adison declared as she pulled on Adam’s shirt to get his attention.
Kris and Adam turned their attention to their younger daughter. Adam gasped in shock. She was covered from head to toe in mud. She had a huge smile on her face as she held out a plate of mud.
“It’s a mud pie.” Adison stated proudly.
Kris laughed at his daughter. Adam looked horrified. He couldn’t believe how of a tomboy Adison was. It was strange how Karis was more like Adam and Adison was more like Kris.
“Addy, that’s so sweet.” Kris spoke as he took the mud pie from his daughter with a laugh.
“I’ll take her in and get her cleaned up.” Karis told her fathers.
Adam looked at her thankfully. They watched as she led her little sister into the house.
“Look, baby, I think there’re worms in it too.” Kris told his husband as he pointed to the pie.
“That’s so gross. She’s your daughter.” Adam stated with a little smile. Kris only laughed at his husband.
A short time later, the party began to break up. Adam and Kris saw all their guests out. When everyone was gone, they went upstairs to check on their daughters. Adison was in her room almost asleep.
“Daddy, did you like the present?” Adison asked Adam in a sleepy voice.
“It was unique.” Adam answered as he tucked her in.
“I love you, Daddy.” She told him.
“I love you too, Addy.” Adam replied before leaning down and kissing her.
“Love you, sweetie.” Kris told her as he leaned down and kissed her.
“Love you too, Dad.” Adison mumbled as she drifted off to sleep.
Karis was in her room with the door shut. Adam gently knocked. She called for them to come in. She was sitting on her bed with her guitar and a notebook.
“What are you working on?” Adam asked as he sat down on the bed with her.
“I don’t know yet.” Karis responded as she set her guitar to the side.
“You know that song you sang tonight was really wonderful.” Kris told his daughter as he leaned against her desk.
“Thanks, Dad. I actually have something else for you. I didn’t get to give it to you earlier.” Karis explained as she reached over to her nightstand and removed something. She handed it to Adam. It was a CD that simply had her name written on it.
“What’s this?” Adam inquired as he took it.
“Well, it’s a CD. It has a few songs on it. The one I wrote for you is the first track. Uncle Tommy, Uncle Monte, and Aunt Allison helped me make it. “Karis answered.
“So now we know why you wanted to go over to Tommy and Allison’s all the time.” Kris replied.
“I wanted it to be a surprise. Do you like it?” Karis questioned.
“It’s perfect.” Adam responded as he smiled brightly at his daughter.
Adam leaned over and gave her a kiss on the cheek. She smiled and threw her arms around him. He hugged her tight. Kris smiled at them and walked over to join the embrace.
Later that night, Adam and Kris snuggled up in bed. They were both thinking about how lucky they were to have their daughters…to have each other.
“I love you.” Kris suddenly stated as he kissed Adam’s chest.
“I love you too.” Adam replied with a smile.
