**This story was written for glam_bingo.**
Adam Lambert loved music. Sometimes it was the only thing that made sense in his life. Fortunately, he had been blessed with a voice. He used that voice to make a living for himself. He wasn’t rich and famous yet, but he felt like he was on that path. He had steady work in traveling productions of musicals. When he wasn’t touring with some musical, he was fronting one band or another. Overall, he loved his life.
One day as he was looking through the paper, he saw an ad for guitar lessons. He smiled at it. He had wanted to take lessons for a while now, but had never gotten around to it. He wanted to be a more well-rounded musician and he thought this was the perfect opportunity. Without hesitation, he called the number listed in the ad and made an appointment for his first lesson.
Adam arrived early on the day of his first lesson. He was excited to get started. When the door to the apartment opened, it revealed a half asleep, blonde man. He was slightly shorter than Adam and just Adam’s type. He hoped that he was his teacher.
“Come in. Make yourself at home.” The man told him as he gestured into the apartment.
Adam smiled and walked in. It was a nice apartment…a little messy. There were guitars and amps everywhere. Music posters covered the walls. Overall, Adam was impressed with this guy’s taste in music.
“I wasn’t expecting you for another half hour. I just need like five minutes to take a shower.” The man suddenly spoke.
“No problem. Sorry I’m early, but I didn’t know where this place was and I didn’t want to be late.” Adam explained as he watched the man walk into the bathroom.
While the man showered, Adam continued to look around the apartment. He wasn’t snooping. Mostly, he was just looking at the posters and some other memorabilia that was lying around.
“Sorry about that. I had a gig late last night. I always need a shower to wake me up and get me going. I’m Tommy Joe, by the way.” The man introduced as he extended his hand toward Adam.
“I’m Adam.” Adam responded as he shook Tommy’s hand. His hair was dripping wet from the shower and Adam thought he was even sexier than when he had first seen him.
“It’s nice to meet you. I’m just gonna start a pot of coffee and then we can start the lesson, okay?” Tommy asked as he headed for the kitchen.
“That’s fine. So you had a gig last night? What band do you play with?” Adam inquired trying to make small talk.
“Well, I just fill in with whatever band I can whenever I can. Last night I was playing with Surefire Dime.” Tommy explained as he started the coffee.
“Cool. I actually played with them a few months back. I sing with different bands whenever I have the time as well.”
Tommy looked at Adam closely for the first time.
“The show at Ryan’s…I was there. You have an amazing voice.” Tommy spoke as he led Adam back to the living room.
“Thanks. I can’t believe that we haven’t met before. It seems like we run in the same circles.” Adam stated as he took a seat where Tommy motioned for him to.
“I know. It is a little strange that we never met up. I guess that it was just meant to happen this way.” Tommy said as he grabbed his guitar and smiled at Adam.
Adam only smiled back. He didn’t know what to say…actually he didn’t trust himself to say anything. He could see himself falling hard and fast for his new guitar teacher. He didn’t think that it would be a good idea. First, he was his teacher. Second, he didn’t even know if Tommy was gay.
“Let’s get started.” Tommy declared.
For the next hour, Tommy and Adam worked on the basics. Adam had thought that learning the guitar was going to be difficult, but Tommy made it easy.
“You’re picking this up pretty fast. You’re the best student I’ve ever had. You’ll be playing like a pro in no time.” Tommy enthused when the lesson was over.
“Thanks. I’m surprised at how easily it’s coming, but I think that it’s just because I have a totally awesome teacher.” Adam replied with a smile.
“Thanks. So I’ll see you next week at the same time for your next lesson.”
“Okay.” Adam replied as they headed for the door.
For the next several weeks, Adam and Tommy grew closer at the lessons. They found out that they had a lot in common. They liked the same music and movies. They had a lot of mutual friends. Adam still hadn’t had the courage to ask Tommy if he was gay. He felt like Tommy was flirting with him sometimes, but he figured that maybe Tommy was just an affectionate person. He hadn’t seen him interact with anyone else, so he didn’t know how he treated other people.
“Listen, I’m playing with a few friends next weekend at the Rock Station. We need a singer, if you’re interested.” Tommy told Adam at the end of his lesson one week.
“Sounds cool.” Adam replied.
“Great. Do you have time today? I’m meeting the rest of the band in about a half hour.” Tommy explained.
“I don’t have any other plans today.” Adam replied trying to hide his excitement.
When they met everyone else at the rehearsal space, Adam was surprised to see his old friend Monte Pittman among the members.
“Monte, I thought you were touring with Pink or someone.” Adam spoke as he hugged his friend.
“I was on tour, but I’ve been back in town for a few weeks.” Monte stated as he returned the embrace.
Tommy then introduced Adam to LP who was a drummer and Camilla Gray who played the keyboard. Monte would be playing the guitar, Tommy would play the bass, and Adam would sing to round out the band.
To start out rehearsal, they all sat down and discussed a set list for the show. When they had worked out a list that everyone was comfortable with, they decided to play something to see how they worked together.
“There’s something wrong with the world today…I don’t know what it is…Something’s wrong with our eyes...Seeing things in a different way…God knows it ain’t his…Sure ain’t no surprise…We’re livin’ on the edge.” Adam sang as he looked over at Tommy.
Tommy smiled at him and continued to play. As they played the song, they all felt like it was a good fit. They sounded great together.
“Dude, that was awesome!” LP exclaimed when the song was over.
Everyone agreed. For the rest of the afternoon, they continued to jam and work out their set list for the show.
“Hey, Adam, wait up!” Tommy called as Adam headed for the door after rehearsal.
Adam stopped and looked back at Tommy. He quickly shut his guitar case and jogged over to Adam. Everyone else was already gone. They had made plans to meet the day after tomorrow for another rehearsal.
“What’s up?” Adam inquired when Tommy caught up to him.
“You were amazing today. Your voice is just…just beautiful.” Tommy told him.
“Thanks.” Adam spoke with a smile.
“Do you want to have dinner with me?” Tommy asked hurriedly.
“What?” Adam inquired shocked.
“Have dinner with me.” Tommy replied looking directly into Adam’s eyes.
“Like a…a…” Adam stumbled over the word.
“A date.” Tommy finished for him. “I’ve been trying to get up the courage to ask you out since I met you. I just wasn’t sure what you’d say. I didn’t know if I was your type.”
“You are most definitely my type. I wanted to ask you out, but I didn’t think I was your type. I mean I didn’t know if you were into guys.” Adam rambled.
“I’ve had relationships with men and women. It’s not about male or female for me. It’s about the energy a person has…the connection that I feel with a person.” Tommy explained.
“And you feel a connection with me?” Adam asked quietly.
“A really strong connection.” Tommy replied. Their lips were practically touching.
“Maybe we should just skip dinner.” Adam breathed as he moved even closer to Tommy.
“Your place or mine?” Tommy asked before lightly kissing Adam’s lips.
“Mine. I want you in my bed.” Adam declared before crushing his lips to Tommy’s waiting ones.
