Help! I have a computer question

So I got a laptop for a graduation present last night, and I need to know, what is the best way to go about importing files and info and shit from my old computer on to this one? And I'm talkin quite a few files (music, photos, etc

an external harddrive with a firewire cable, or just transferring via CD and whatever

Are external hardrives terribly expensive?

Hmm, and you just hook it up to the original computer and somehow put all your stuff on it and then hook it up to the new one? Do you have to install things all over again and everything?
Did that make any sense? :P

no, it's like a portable thumb drive, only bigger, so yah you just hook it to your odl comp, drag your files into it, then hook up to your new comp and drag them onto your new comp. I think its way easier than bruning everything to cds esp. if you have a lot of files:)

Cool. God, I'm so blonde when it comes to these things. I think I'll have to take the Best Buy person home with me and make them walk me through it, lol.
