[Point of time in canon from which the character is taken] After he's met Lloyd and party. He's still the Chosen of Mana and thinks that he's pretty hot stuff.
[Background info] Zelos is the Chosen of Mana of the world Tethe'alla. Zelos was born and raised in Meltokio, a large city in Tethe'alla that is home to the King, and where social status is everything. The areas in Meltokio are clearly marked by the wealth of its residents, or the lack of said wealth. Zelos though, being of the Chosen lineage, is very wealthy and his family's power is second only to the King. So growing up, Zelos had the best toys, the biggest house, went to all the fancy parties, and went to the most prestigious school in the country, the Imperial Research Academy in Sybak. Which was no problem for him, since he was considered a prodigy. In actuality, Zelos excelled only in math, but still managed to graduate at the top of his class. How? Zelos wasn't only clever; he was handsome. He used his charms to trick his "hunnies" into taking notes for him and giving him the answers to all his tests.
However, not everyone liked him when he was younger. His mother was killed when he was quite young, when a half-elf assassin attacked Zelos and meant to kill him, but instead killed his mother in the cross-fire. Her last words to him were "You should never have been born". His father was negligent of the family also and left them for another woman, bringing forth Seles, Zelos's half sister.
The Pope of the Church of Martel also didn't want Zelos to be born. Power-hungry, he wanted to rule all of Tethe'alla. However, because Zelos was the Chosen, he always had the final say. If Zelos hadn't been born, he could easily have ruled.
If Zelos hadn't been born first, Seles would have been the Chosen of Mana, something that she always wanted to be - and something Zelos didn't.
[Personality] He's a womanizing, egotistical, flamboyant, happy, skirt-chasing, charming, handsome, flirt. He's always flirting with girls. He doesn't seem to care much for men. Most of the time, he's a source of comic relief.
Despite his apparently superficial personality though, Zelos is actually perceptive, intelligent, and surprisingly sensitive; at times he occasionally shows that he's not as vapid or happy as he seems. Deep down, he's also very loyal and modest. His self-esteem is practically nonexistant; since so many people never wanted him born, he constantly questions his self-worth and his purpose in life.
[Abilities] He's rather adept with a sword and can perform limited magic, like First Aid (a healing ability).
[Other important facts] He wears a lot of pink and can be confused for a woman. ♥

*sigh* What a boring train ride. There wasn't anybody on the train to talk to...not a single girl. I can't wait to get back to Meltokio. Why do I have to go to Sybak anyways? *grumbles* Pope's orders, that's why.
*looking around for the first time* Hm? This doesn't look quite like Sybak. What's that, bird? A school? Scratch that. It's exactly like Sybak then. *sarcastic laugh*
Must've gotten off at the wrong stop or something. Hey, bird. How do I get back on the train?
...what? What do you mean, no going back? An application? No, I'm not staying here! Look, this isn't funny. I don't know how much a stupid PARROT knows, but I happen to the Chosen of Mana. There are a lot of people in Tethe'alla, not to mention a lot of pretty ladies, waiting for me.
