"Sadaharu~"
A cute white rabbit twitched its ears in its safe cage. Kagura, five or six years old then, lifted up the cage's doors and carefully brought out her pet. She stared at the wide red eyes and grinned. "Mammy is too sick to tuck me in bed tonight! But I'll be okay if you're here aru."
The rabbit sniffed her hands for a minute before snuggling in, resting its head on her arm.
She grinned even more.
"Sweet deems."
-
The truth was - she did not have sweet dreams. She can't remember what it was about (something to do with sunlight, but it wasn't very clear). But when she woke the next morning, her Mammy - a woman who resembled her very much - was holding her but was facing away - her wake went by unnoticed.
"So ... she killed it in her sleep?" She asked bewildered, "...That's too early."
Pappy sighed. "Can't be helped ... It wasn't intentional." There was a rustle of fabric and he got up, carrying something in his hands. "I'll go bury this ..."
"Bury what?"
The two parents snapped their heads towards her and there is moment of panic. Her father is the first one to recover. "Kagura, Sadaharu - "
Mammy interrupted. "Dear, I don't think ..."
"No," He shook his head, "It's better that she knows. Kagura -... Sadaharu is dead."
Kagura got up from Mammy's hold and stared up at his in disbelief. "Dead? But he was okay yesterday! He wasn't sick!"
Pappy looked down at the lump of blankets in his hands. "... Kagura. You killed it."
For a long moment, she did not registered what he meant by that. She ... killed Sadaharu? The little child responded numbly. "I would never do that."
Mammy wordlessly hugged her from behind, patting her head gently. She whispered softly. "It wasn't your fault. You ... You just had a nightmare Kagura. It's not your fault."
-
Despite the pouring raining, Kagura sat beside the little make-shift grave of Sadaharu. She sobbed few times, holding her tears in.
"...I'm sorry Sadaharu," she hiccuped, "...It is my fault. If I wasn't this strong ... I'm sorry."
*She doesn't wake up. But her face as she sleeps looks sad.*
