Some of my patients have not yet realized that they're in a hospital and not a country club. I accompanied the hospital nutritionist today on her rounds -- my resident told me to learn something -- and I tried, really. Service jobs tend to require more patience. The masses in general are not known for their impeccable courtesy.

I don't know if I would consider medicine a service industry per se.

You interact with the members of the public on a daily basis servicing their physical needs. Medicine is a service job, a very high level one, but a service job nonetheless.
