So I'm pretty sure, I'm now officially a Southern, tennessee-n girl!

Today I was riding the school bus home from camp, when suddenly, we started to break and I heard the bus driver say "oh shoot" and then "THUD!" Barrett (another counselor) and I looked at each other and looked at the bus driver and said "what happened?" We apparently hit a wild turkey in the middle of the road. Well, Barrett and I immediately started making jokes and getting excited about going back and picking it off the road and cooking it for dinner.

We got to our cars and hopped in his truck and drove the 2 miles back to the location of the hit turkey, where we found it, dead, on the corner of the church parking lot. He got his camera and we started the documentation. He proceeded to pick it up and toss it in his truck. We get back to the parking lot to wait for Chris and show him what was for dinner. Chris arrived, saw the turkey, started laughing like a 4 year old (kind of scary) and we headed to Wal-mart for a cowboy hat (for me) and hopefully some instruction on how to cook a wild turkey.

NO luck at wal-mart, but no fear, after a few phone calls and a little reserach online, we had our directions, our gloves, and a garbage bag and began dinner. Now I will admit that I was the historian for the event, not so much the butcher, but I was still there and still watching. We dipped the turkey in a bucket of hot water and begun the plucking process. After plucking quite a few feathers, we saw the damage that the bus had caused. We also noticed gross oozing liquid coming out of the turkey's mouth and other regions. It was then that we decided to stop preparing the turkey for dinner and just take more pictures. It was also then that we chopped the wing off with a hatchet and saved it for our friend Justin at camp tomorrrow.

So my friends, I have sucessfully picked up road kill with the intention of cooking it and eating it, which IS leagal in the state of Tennessee. I consider myself a true southerner now!

It was a fun day as you can tell. Yay for the stories we have for our little campers tomorrow!!!

In short other news, I have about 50 bug bites on my legs. I'm not exaggerating. I also have a sunburn that I'm pretty sure will never be white skin again! I love summer. I love camp and it's only been day 2!!
