Okay This is part 1 of a probably a 3 part nerdfest on draft picks. that I'm doing. I was looking up draft picks of all the 40 man rosters in MLB just to mostly find out if first round draft picks are really what it's all about. I was looking to see if being a first rounder really differed from like an 8th rounder. I found many many things along this way. This is the first part of all of this which concerns the late round draft picks that are in the MLB 40 man rosters. I compiled this with a lot of elbow grease and a lot of long hours. By late round I mean anything from the 20th round and later. I have two parts of this. Part 1 is a list of how many players had been drafted in the late rounds according to team(the team that drafted them) Part 2 is a look at the players and the rounds. I would've done it by overall pick but you see a lot of the overall pick and round stuff is a little skewered due to the additions of teams and what not. For example, Brad Ausmus was drafted in the 48th round by the Yankees in 1987. His overall number is below 1152, which is lower than Mike Jacobs whose overall number is 1156 but was drafted by the Mets 10 rounds lower(38th round). The skewering is due to the addition of 4 teams since 1987. Also this list only concerns players who were drafted in the 20th round and later. So anyways without further ado...

So what have I learned from this? Well it seems like the year 2000 was a hell of a year to be a late round draft pick. I also learned that two Mets draftees had the same exact overall pick number of 1156 (Isringhausen and Mike Jacobs) though a 6 round difference. Also three of the players in the 24th round all were overall pick 707. Two of them were one year after the other (Braden and Brandon Jones). Also 1995 and 1996 were good years to be late round draft picks.
Earliest pick in this group was 1982 with Kenny Rogers and the latest was 2005 with Jeff Gray. Also I don't think anybody will top Heath Bell anytime soon in round or overall number.
So anyways this is only PART of what I've been doing. I'm working on a few more things here and there. Gonna break things down a bit more and all that jazz. :) Hope you enjoyed this look.
