2007 Boston Red Sox: Clinching with Style

Sep 22, 2007 22:48

Huuuuuge win tonight from the Red Sox. They had a 5-3 lead that Javier Lopez(and a slooowwww hook from Tito) coughed up, but no fear. Why? Because the combination of Gagne pitching with a deficit, a great comeback capped by 2 homeruns from Tek and Lugo, and a 1-2-3 save from Papelbon ensured the 8-6 win for the Red Sox. And with that win, combined with the Tigers losing, have insured a playoff spot for the Red Sox, being the first team to clinch a spot. Of course the mystery still remains whether it will be the AL East or the Wild Card. The magic number for the AL East is at 6, but they're ensured a playoff spot and that is the HUGE thing of tonight. And tonight was kinda strange given that JD Drew had a pretty good night himself and Eric Gagne pitched a scoreless inning. This is a pretty good thing.

So the Red Sox are the first of the 8 teams to get their spot in the playoffs. And honestly, I'm so freaking proud of this team for making it to the playoffs. Yes, I know, it's not the AL East, but I'm so freaking proud they're gonna be in there. This is a great freaking team. Sure they're not exactly flashy or wild and crazy like years past, but these guys....they're like that best guy/chick friend you never completely appreciate until they do something so great that you just can't deny it. It's like you're all into the loud crazy party animal ones or the really really hot ones...but the ones that are always by your side and you never really notice how awesome they really are, you know what I mean? But I am just being a dope here.

But you wanna know who I'm really happy for? Guys like Coco Crisp, Kevin Cash, Javier Lopez(I think), Kyle Snyder, and Eric Hinske. They've been around for a while and never had a taste of postseason play until now. I mean the rookies are made of awesome and it's great to see the others get back in there, but those guys are vets who never really had a chance...now they do. Though you're not sure exactly with Snyder and Cashie.

Regardless, I'm so freaking happy for these guys. But, it's not over yet. The big thing now is to get that division. Magic number is at 6. But even if they don't, while I'll be wicked disappointed, they're still in the playoffs and that's the big thing. :)
