Since Edgar was one of my main binkies out there, I may as well write up a little post-mortem trade thing. I'm pretty disappointed in the way the Edgar Era ended, but I can't say that I wasn't in favor of the trade. Marte is one of the best prospects in baseball, mind you, and 10 times out of 10 you HAVE to make that deal. I'm bummed at the way Edgar was treated here and how one bad season seems to put such a bad taste in people's mouths. Yes, he had a bad season, but you act like he did absolutely nothing to help the team. He wasn't a black hole of suck, like Bellhorn was(sorry Bellhorn fans, but it is the truth) he did have in contributions. He was pretty good with the bat after that very slow beginning.
I think the main thing was that he was penalized for not being Orlando Cabrera. Now mind you, I love Cabby to death. I think he's a great player, and I love to watch him play SS, but that doesn't mean I didn't like Edgar. I loved the guy, and he was only adjusting to the league, you know. Some of you never gave him a chance, it seems. He was better than that, but you guys will never see now. He had a great August and a great May, you know, with the bat. His errors? 30 errors is a lot, that's more of a "no shit Sherlock" kind of thing. Seriously though, errors are more of a "luck of the draw thing" I mean if a bounce goes your way or it doesn't. You can't help it sometimes. Besides I recall Cabrera having liek 29 of them in like 2003. It was a bad season for Edgar and I wish him the best in Atlanta. Edgar was a clutch hitter. Now stop laughing, right now. Yes, I'm well aware he made the last out in the ALDS twice(also, btw, he did hit pretty well in the ALDS and made no errors so you can't say anything bad about him there. If there was anybody at fault for the ALDS, it wasn't him. Or Papi and Manny.) but he did get it done if need be, whether it be moving the runner over, getting the hit needed(I can recall about five games in which he had a big hit tying/winning a game). He wasn't a bad little player, he just needed a little time to adjust and a little more luck going his way.
That being said, the deal had to be made. Marte is one of those prospects that if you get a proposal to acquire him, you do it. But if Edgar does have a great season in 2006, I cant say I told you so. Oh and btw, I had the scoop ;)
