Ficlet for Possible Baby!Danny City Shift.

Danny was fussy. Cranky. Upset. Whatever word someone used, Caesar could care less. All he knew was that Danny was teething, and unable to express himself more eloquently, being a baby now, Danny was letting his discomfort be known.

It wasn't full-blown crying. Just half-hearted cries and upset, somewhat distressed faces. He was drooling a lot, and he was trying hard not to put things in his mouth, although the urge was definitely there. (Danny had apologized to him in baby speak after he realized he was chewing one of Caesar's cold metal wrenches. Caesar's back had only been turned for a moment. It seemed even a teenager in a baby's body couldn't resist some of those instincts.)

Luckily, Danny was picking up on baby sign language extremely quickly. With his developed mind, it was really a simple task. Caesar was glad that there had been a book in the library about it.

"I've got just the thing, Danny," Caesar spoke to the baby-who-wasn't-a-baby in his arm, resting the boy against his hip. "Something that you can chew."

Danny's expression said that he clearly didn't like the idea, and he vocalized in the negative. "Nuh!"

"Yes," Caesar replied absently, rooting around in the freezer; he pulled out a teething ring, warming it up so it wasn't completely rock solid with a bit of Bending, and then held it up to the infant. "Here."

"Nuh!" Danny pushed it away, looking mildly distressed.

Caesar just gave him a look. "I know this works, Danny. Rex used them all the time when he was a baby. It'll help sooth the pain."

"Nuh!" Danny's expression became a frown, and he was quickly starting to wind up.

"Would you rather cause a scene by crying because of the pain, or do you want to quietly suck and chew on this instead?" Caesar replied, showing how unimpressed he was.

"..." Danny stared at him for a moment, then took the ring and began to chew on it, visibily relaxing after a few moments.

Caesar smiled a bit as he shut the freezer door, his eyes softening. "Isn't that better?"

Danny merely nodded as he continued chewing quietly. Satisfied, Caesar shifted the infant so that he was resting up against his chest, and headed back into the main room to join the others.
