and just in case you missed it - my Dad, Roy Arnott, was on the honours list this morning. An OAM for services to military history preservation and veterans. Long overdue, well deserved.

You may not know either that dad went straight from Scouts and Rangers into the Army Reserve and was a Warrant Officer. He was in the 4/19th Prince Of Wales Light Horse who have a long and distinguished military history. Dad has coordinated, sourced, researched and maintained the regimental archives and records since he retired. He also works pretty tirelessly for veterans, which is what he was doing today, up at Seymour for a service for regimental Vietnam vets marking their 50th anniversary.

My earliest memories are of dad polishing his shoes on Tuesday nights in preparation for mess on Wednesdays and of his Puckapunyal fortnights twice a year. For a struggling family the extra cash would have been a blessing.

and in other news today, the bloody jam that took me hours to cook today didnt set, so i get to do it all again next weekend - le sigh
