Another dead chicken this morning. One of the anti social black barnevelders (either Kayla, Taylah or Shaylah) was stone cold in the pen. She was acting strangely and has probably been sick a few days. We tend to think this breed might be a little weak and probably wont buy any more of them, despite being layers of lovely big brown eggs.
Two beautiful little frizzles are waiting to come to us, bred by a girl here at work but not yet old enough to be laying. Soon we will have 8 again.
I dont like loosing any of the girls, but chickens do tend to drop off like this and you just have to accept it and buy hardy breeds that can withstand the odd illness.
