wisdom mcnuggets from the 'stotler.

on the dramatic use of bitches and slaves, if you must:
"in the characters there are four points to aim at. first and foremost, that they shall be good. there will be an element of charater in the play, if (as has been observed) what a personage says or does reveals a certain moral purpose; and a good element of character, if the purpose so revealed is good. such goodness is possible in every type of personage, even in a woman or slave, though the one is perhaps an inferior, and the other a wholly worthless being...it is not appropriate to make a female character to be manly, or clever."
oh aristotle, you cad!

and a truth as old as time:
"hence it is that poetry demands a man with a special gift for it, or else one with a touch of madness in him; the former can easily assume the required mood, and the latter may be actually beside himself with emotion."
madness is next to godliness; or perhaps they are one in the same.

my supervisor just said that mrs. robinson was by the beatles. she also demanded to know my favorite love song, and, always a choke artist, all i could come up with were the monster ballads of yore. mr. big, you have scarred me in strange and indelible ways.
