Okay so I did the unthinkable and applied to a rating community a few days ago...I know, I know, believe me I've always questioned the notion.but out of sheer curiousity and noticing that(for an 'ethnic' community) the standards were more like: "have some white blood in you and you have grrrrreat chances of getting in." In other words, I noticed a trend, that is,people that had noticable negroid features were more likely to get no's or silly comments from a particular member. So I thought I'd apply(you'd have to join to have access to posting and rating)to call people this member out and vote fairly. Of course that vain part of me was one of the reasons I joined but that a different story lol...anyway read on:
The community was
melanin_love so to speak. In the rules it states that you should "state your racial heritage in your inductory post" so I did. And while most of the people that commented were mature, someone(that 'member') said something
ignorant. Really, the whole baffle speaks for itself but anyway I was saddened to learn that people like him exist. It's crazy because I had read some comments made by him in other earlier posts(I had been 'trolling' after I saw it advertised on blackfolk) and his comments were just ridiculous. The particular comment he made to me sparked
this discussion blackfolk. The discussion was definately more informative and people were able to voice their feelings and opinions in a mature & educated way. I have to say I have no problem with mixed people(really, it's silly to be prejudiced...and yes I acknowlege the fact that they too have experienced discrimination of some sort), but that individual, particularly, was just way over his head. At first I was just very irritated and I took off my pictures and pulled out of the community because I realized that it wasn't my thing to rate people in the first place...honestly, I had no intention to play the 'judge'?
I just pity him. It's sad that he thinks his opinion is law or that: "btw opinions are opinions ignorance come from people who get offened and take shit to the head.." ????
I'll have to say, I applaud
Shana for sparking that discussion on blackfolk. I don't know much about her but from what I see she is definately a well-adjusted individual. I decided to stay
in_the_mix(a differet community that I had joined from the discussion..) because I can see that it is an accepting community. She is a mod and just that alone gives me enough confidence to make such a conclusion. yeah it's still a rating community but I don't see myself giving people no's or disrespecting them.
PEACE.
