well, now is the time when we start counting straight up to the moving date. yeesh, this is strange. all my "moves" hitherto have been in the same city, and they were really more characterizable as "shuffling of feet" than actual moves - i'd move over the course of a week or two, getting the big stuff out of the way early and then packing up the little stuff as necessary. it's one of the luxuries of living in the dorms or moving from one apartment in a complex to another in the same complex. but now that i'm through giving waaaaay too much thought to grading my students' performances, i'm realizing just how much i need to get packed, orchestrated, paid, cancelled, sent off in the mail, written, and etc.
yowza.
well, at least tomorrow's my birthday, and
i'll get to spend it with family and punky! it'll be tough to top tonight's dinner at in-n-out with mom and dad, sitting outside at our favorite in-n-out, watching as the sun's last rays slowly crept away. i can only hope that rochester's sunsets know what they're up against - i'm not holding my breath that they be anywhere near as captivating. they do have waterfalls, gorges, and a great lake in the area, but as i know from growing up in florida, trees do weird things to sunsets because you can't grasp the epic wholeness of nature like you can in chaparral california. plus, i like me some hills.
in other news, punky told me about the offer of t-shirts for one of my all-time favorite band collaborations,
nobody & mystic chords of memory's album "tree colored sea". the mush records site has some, but i'm not sure if they are the same as the ones the band mentioned on myspace.... anyways, if you're looking for new summertime music, go check out that link. and if you want some crazy jazzy-nintendo-windup weirdness, go check out the music sample for
daedelus' new album "denies the sun's demise". and if you happen to be like punky, i'm sure you'll not only be captivated by the album's darling (and all too familiar) artwork, you'll want to snuggle up inside of daedelus' sideburns.
(yes, punky, there is a younger version of mike nesmith, and he's the one i kept trying to point out to you once when we were eating in swingers santa monica. oh, burly sideburns, how i wish i could grow ye!)
okay, this rambler needs to step away from the keyboard, go get something to drink, and go to sleep already. i've got a long day ahead of me tomorrow, and i'm looking forward to all of it. congrats if you read all the way through this.
