today i got to wake up early, fill out a medical form, and eventually micturate into a little tupperware triangle. hurray for tinkle tests! otherwise i'd probably get in trouble for whizzing into tupperware with someone else in the room listening. it was a rapid test, so i found out that there wasn't any glucose in there, and therefore my hypochondria will have to find something besides diabetes to glom onto when i can't get to sleep.

speaking of not getting much sleep, i didn't at all last night since i needed to get up so early today, so i eventually laid back down once i got home and napped much longer than i meant to. blech. hopefully i'll stop doing that before it becomes habit... i don't want the moving stress to turn into some sort of janus-faced depression, with me sometimes being manic and enjoying myself utterly with my friends, other times being really grumpy, and then other times just sleeping lots and generally avoiding the land of the awake. i'll have to work on that, seriously.

in other news, i think my favorite season might be "indian summer". it's nature's way of explaining "bittersweet" to children. and, in preparation for this briefest of seasons - although, really, it could be argued that southern california sort of "indian summer" for much of the year - i'm offering all of you a link to more oakley hall songs. i'm still really digging this band. take one part neil young rock, one part byrds harmonies, and spice it up with two parts velvet underground scraping electric violin allmighty buzz, and you've got a pretty potent mix of your pal pinball's pavorite parts. they apparently did a daytrotter session recently, with a daytrotter session being the internet-savvy indie rock equivalent of a john peel session: a band comes into a studio and records four songs in just a few hours. in addition to these four free songs, there's also a rather impressive interview with the band.

so yeah, since almost everyone whom i know reads this is going through some sort of substantial upheaval: moving from riverside, figuring out how to stay in the town where they need to do their research, finding a job either inside or outside of academia, switching from working to pass their exams to working on their dissertation proper, going back to school in los angeles, etc., i figured i'd make sure that you all at least got to download some good, free, legal music that sounds to me like electrified buzzing bittersweet. enjoy!

music, moving, oakley hall, bitter sweet, job, rochester
