As the owner of a restaurant, you need a menu to let your customers know what they can order. If you don't have the money to get your menu professionally designed, create your own menu with OpenOffice. The exact steps to create your menu are different depending upon how you want your menu to look. However, you can create basic menus following general principles.
Step 1
Start OpenOffice Writer.
Step 2
Click the "Insert" menu. Select "Picture" if you want to have your restaurant's logo on the menu. Choose the picture on your hard drive and click "Open." Your logo will appear centered at the top of the page. Drag the picture to any location on the page if you want to move it. If you don't have a logo, you can create one with OpenOffice Draw.
Step 3
Press "Ctrl" and "E" to type centered text. Type your restaurant's name if it's not in a logo. Skip a few lines and type the first section name for your menu. For example, type "Appetizers." If you want to change the size or font of the text, highlight it and choose your options from the toolbar.
Step 4
Press "Enter." Decide whether you want your menu items to be centered. If you want them to be aligned on the left, press "Ctrl" and "L." Put the items in a place that looks good to you. Add descriptions of the items. Type the price of each item next to the item's name or after the description. Create other sections in the same way as needed. Organize the menu into logical sections, such as entrees, desserts and drinks. The items that you need to make depend on the food that you serve.
Step 5
Click the "File" menu, and select "Page Preview" to see how your menu looks. Make changes to it until you have the design you want.

To make a menu with multiple columns, click the "Format" menu button and then "Columns."
