Update on Fanime:
It was AWESOME!!
Thurs: we got there in the evening after a few pit stops here and there. Met up with Will, Sam and Antonio. We wandered around and I picked up my badge with the help of Tomoko since I grabbed the wrong passport -_-. Thank you Tomoko! We saw James there and he looked soooo tired. So I went to our hotel room and made him and Antonio sandwiches since those boys don't have enough sense to feed themselves -_- But they were very grateful and labeled me the Con Mom. Yay.
Hung out with the other staffers for a few hours and updated the schedules that -someone- gave to us late. We just sat there and messed around while Tony uploaded the schedules onto the convention center's monitors. Turned out that Antonio left some stuff in Davis, so I accompanied him to Davis. I think it was a bad idea to hang out with the staffers until 2am, THEN start driving. But I got to pick up my angel wings while I was up there! It was challenging to stay up, but I had a very good conversation with Antonio. Man he knows a lot about Robotech @_@ But it was cool cuz I'm really interested in Robotech and he filled in a lot of gaps for me. We got back to the convention center at around 7:30am. And that crazy guy went straight to reg to work! My god! As soon as I got back to the hotel, I konked out.
Fri: mostly walked around and cheered on reg staff. Made more sandwiches to feed dumb staffers. Walked around some more. Went to the dealer's room and I saw Domo-kun there! So I got him (he was $21! wtf!?) and the third edition of Megatokyo.
I was invited to the VIP staff party in the evening, but of course it was in a bar and I didn't have any ID, so I didn't go. Boo. Mostly a rest day. Except the frantic schedule updates at midnight until 2am. Geez scheduling takes a lot of work!
Sat: Woke up reeeeeally early to start on MusicFest work. Got into my cute corset, put my punk makeup on and started my errands. Did lots of running back and forth between departments to get stuff for the bands. Finally kidnapped a vol staff and went to Albertsons to get everything I needed. Dropped everything off and finally met PickleBunny (Kristen). Then I just sat in the back of the theater and listen to rehearsals as I continued updating the schedules. Kumiko Kato is so cute! And ZZ were so cool. And I got everyone to sign the back of my badge after they got done with their rehearsals. You gotta love the perks of being MusicFest staff And as Tony and I went out to get dinner, I saw Truong and his family o.O Turns out that his family likes anime. I told him if he stayed, I could get him into MusicFest, but he didn't want to. Boo.
The actual concert went very well. Maria was very cute and sweet. Ramen and Rice rocked the house, especially when they played the Chocobo Song.
I bet Kumiko Kato caused some nosebleeds while she was dancing. Man that was some sexy wiggling!
ZZ brought down the house though. I have never seen so many people bumrush the stage and jumping up and down like that. Wow. Throughout the night it was great having the staff badge since I could go backstage and look around and talk to the bands. It was great!
The night ended after we got back, showered and went to a senior staff meeting. Lots of talking, but lots of clapping and pats on the back for Tony!
Sun: Slept in. Walked around. Hung out. Went to Der Cosplay. It was pretty good. Worried about my paper since I hadn't started, but I wanted to enjoy myself.
Mon: Went to Kumiko Kato's panel. She's so adorable! Saw the AMV contest winners. Hehe manah manah! Walked around and looked around since it was the last day. Went to the dealer's room to see if there were any sales since I wanted to get manga on the last day. I got 17 manga for $130 They were 20% off, no tax and I got a free manga since I was buying so many. W00t! And I saw Minnie there! She stole one of Truongs' badges and got in. I hope she got lots of stuff!
Went to closing ceremonies where a teary Tomoko thanked everyone for a great year. Very touching indeed.
Then the gripe session. There wasn't much griping, which was surprising. It was all constructive criticism and some suggestions for next year. And it was there that Will told me that Tony and I were going to head publications. So I got the job! YAY!
Then we all went to the staff pizza party and talked. It was great seeing everyone and being able to talk and laugh with everyone. Dude even Yamaga showed up! I went to his table to talk to Lita, and I waved at him. I think I weirded him out a bit ^^; But I told Kentaro to reassure him that I was just being friendly. I told him I'll buy him more beer next year. He's such an awesome guy.
Went back to the hotel to do some researching for my paper.
Tues: got up and met up with James. Packed everything into his car and went with him and Scott to sushi. Scott and James gave me pointers for next year and they told me that they'll help me out should I have any questions or concerns. I hope I bring my A game next year cuz I want to be me, not "Tony's girlfriend". I'm going to make everything so much better that they'll be ecstatic to have me as director! Then we went back up to Davis. I had a really wonderful conversation with James about many things as we drove up. He's such a nice guy!
Got to Davis, talked for a bit, then I got to work. The rest of Tues and Wed was devoted to my paper.
