My roommate is watching something called Legally Blonde the Musical: The Search for the Next Elle Woods. I am listening to Follies with my headphones and I can still hear those pink-clad harpies auditioning. Ohmygod you guys, WHY?! Sure, people have been saying theatre is dead for centuries, but adding reality tv to the mix is a newfangled torture device. On the other hand, maybe this monstrosity will make the damn show close. I can dream, can't I?
Is this how SRS BSNS Real Models feel about ANTM? That there's probably some talent in the participants but that the process is an abomination?

In other theatre news, the Tony Awards are next Sunday. Sondheim's getting his well-deserved lifetime achievement award.
Full list of nominations.
I'm kinda glad I went last year instead of this year. 2008 has proved pretty underwhelming. I mean, this is another good year for revivals, but there seem to be more yet musicals continuing the Campy-Movie-to-Musical trend (Xanadu, Young Frankenstein, Cry Baby). :(
Predictions
Best Play: August: Osage County by Tracy Letts (even though I'm rooting for Tom Stoppard's Rock 'n' Roll)
Best Musical: In the Heights
Best Revival of a Play: Macbeth, yo!
Best Revival of a Musical: Gypsy
