It's officially over...
My last day is done.
I am unemployed.
Recollections of my employment include:
- Layoffs of 1/4 of the company when I had been there 6 months. He was overheard he couldn't afford his trip to Cabbo otherwise.
- 30 cent payraise at my one year anniversary
- Training his daughters to do my job while they were making more than me
- Training his pothead son afterwards
- 60 cent cost of living increase, first COL raise the company had seen in 5 years
Then the Motherfucker has the gall to take away our medical insurance. FUCK YOU!!!! Once again this was just before a trip to Mexico. He decided he was paying too much for his employees health so now we can pay for a really shitty plan or pay more for an almost as shitty plan. One has to draw the line in the sand somewhere. I will not be treated like property, and in interactions with him it is obvious that is what his employees are. I loved my work and I really liked everyone who works there, I HATE the company.
I got a hero's sendoff today. Everyone there wants to quit but are trapped with mortgages, kids, car payments. The overall sentiment was "I wish I could go too :( " Tom said, "I'm glad someone had the BALLS to quit, none of the rest of us do." I'm sorry guys, I'll hire you someday and we'll kick some aviation ass.
I'm negotiating with the lead inspector/install manager to do contract work for him, because we have a lot of installs coming and no experienced applicants. It means I gotta get a business liscense and do all my own tax paperwork and everything else involved with that, but it will be at least a $7.00 an hour pay raise. And, I'll set my own hours. HA HA asshat!
Monday I have an appointment with my school advisor. I can't wait to be back in school.
Life, as they say, is good.
