I opened the post window with the original intention to just say "Hey." and that was it...but I decided that I have some content I can write about. Most of my personal entries that WOULD be in here, have since moved to the Nachos and Cheese book that Chrissy, Rachel, Alan, Wickett, and I have FINALLY created. (Speaking of us, Chrissy, dad wants the donkey out from behind the garage...we need to find him a home soon.)
Anyhow...I'm going to write this one about the accident today on the way to school. Even though I really didn't know him that well, I feel that it's the least I could do.
So we're on our way to school, and we get close to Rachel's house and the traffic is backed up...completely stopped. This has happened before, and we all just knew it was a wreck. Probably the nastiest one I've ever seen. After sitting about 15 minutes, we finally moved up and you could see the wreck. I assumed that one of the cars slid on ice and got pounded by another car going the other way. I was correct. Complete "T-bone." The black car (the one hit) was slaughtered. I knew that whoever was in it had a very slim chance of making it, if they didn't already. Right there, I knew it was bad. My phone started vibrating due to a text I had received from Rachel. She told me that the person in the truck was her neighbor's uncle, and he only suffered a broken leg. She told me the other person was killed. I did not know who it was until Zach was talking about it before lunch. I knew of him as Ben. Ben was the aide of one of the learning support students in our school. He and Mrs. Barnhardt. I think he started that job when I was in 7th grade. I mainly know him from my 8th grade trip to Hershey/Gettysburg. He was one of the nicest people you could ever have met. Last year, he student taught for Mr. Snelick, our Calculus teacher, and ended up becoming an aide. This year, he moved up to a full teaching job in DuBois. He finally got his career completely established, and this goes and happens...to such a nice person. I just don't really know what to say about it. Even though I didn't really get to know him very well, I still feel horrible about this. HE WAS SO NICE! Bah. I guess that's just how things go though...
Ben will be missed...greatly.
I think I just have to look at it as though he's in a better place now...
