Despite the dim lighting, the venue for the masquerade was luxurious. Silk and velvet. Fragrances and tastes. Silver and gold. Feathers and flowers. Dress and tuxedos. There were secret glances and efforts to know each other’s faces... but the masks! Everyone was wearing their masks, hiding their faces from the crowds, identity only to be revealed by scents and dresses...

And most importantly, memories.

The host smiled enigmatically and called for attention. A sudden silence followed, all eyes focusing on the man on the stage.

"Ladies and gentlemen, let the Dance of Darkness begin. I will turn off all the lights except the one on the stage, and you shall roam and search for a dance partner. May this short session open a new door of romance for you."

The crowd started to panic. A man took a quick glance around the room, anticipating the coming movements in the huge room. He needed to find that someone. He knew he was there.

Yes. It was definitely him. He grinned at the sight of the man's back, and stepped quickly to get to him as soon as the lights were turned off.

"Shall we dance?"

He could hear the other man gasped in surprise. He pulled the surprised man with a quick and sharp move, their chests bumped to each other and faces only a centimeter away. His partner was wearing a half-face mask, with feathers on the left side.

"Uh. Hi," the other man greeted first, trying to cover his shyness, but still he leaned forward to felt more of his partner's presence. In the very low lighting, he could see his partner was wearing a red half-face mask covering only his eyes, exposing his cheeks, nose, and alluring plump lips. A strong scent was coming from his neck, and he tilted his head to smell him deeply. "You smell like... rose."

He shivered and closed his eyes for a while. "Sounds feminine, but... I'd like you to call me that," he hummed, and leaned forward to take in his partner's scent in turn and giggled near his ear. He reached for his hands and felt his skin, "Oh... with this I know you're younger than me. Tell me your name."

"Unfair."

"Yes I know I am. Tell me."

His partner hesitated for a while before finally answered, "Jun."

The music started to play and “Rose” led the dance, slowly luring Jun farther to a darker corner. He needed to find out more. He needed to find out about the truth.

"Say..." he whispered low, enjoying the sudden stiffness from his partner. "Have you ever been in love?"

"Why asking me that?"

"Just answer," he demanded, brushing the tip of his nose lightly on Jun's jaw, a part which wasn't covered by the mask. He could hear the other man sighed at the contact, perhaps torn between pulling away and surrender.

Jun shivered and pondered on giving him an answer instead of enduring his-a stranger's-touch on him, though he didn't hate it. "...Once," Jun said weakly when his partner slowly circled his firm hand around his waist to pull him even closer.

He giggled, "How nice. Tell me."

"No way I c- oh gosh," Jun gulped and breathed heavily as he felt that stranger blew a hot air on his ear, followed with a giggle. "Uh… Junior high. A senior. Never confessed," he managed to say.

“Then? Tell me more…” the stranger demanded for a continuation, hands stroking Jun’s lips lightly. “…with these lips.”

“You’re rude,” Jun said, couldn’t hide his trembling voice. “Who are you?”

“Your dance partner,” the man’s hand reached for Jun’s mask in an attempt to remove it.

“I’m. Asking. For. Your. Name,” irritated, Jun grabbed the man’s wrist.

“You said I smell like rose, and I take that as a nickname.”
It happened just in a split second, Jun felt a push and his back hit something hard-the stranger just pinned him on the nearby wall. Jun gasped as the man quickly grabbed both of Jun’s wrists and ducked his head to bite his lower lip lightly, breath warm against his mouth. “I know you don’t like this, and I won’t stop until you tell me,” the man whispered into Jun’s mouth.

“You’re… mad.”

“I know I am. Now say it. Who was that lucky person?”

“A senior.”

“Naaaame?” the man lifted Jun’s chin and hissed on his face.

“Sa… Sakurai Sho. Sho-se… No. Sakurai-senpai,” Jun stuttered as the man took his mask by force and placed light kisses all over his face, sending shivers down his spine. “Sakurai Sho.”

“Good boy.” The man released him at once, standing beside him and leaned against the wall. “Open my mask.”

“What?”

“While it’s still dark. Open it. I just took yours, and you should do the same.”

Jun hesitantly followed when he felt the man’s hand on his, guiding it to touch and feel his face. He took the man’s mask cautiously as if not to hurt the skin underneath. His hand unconsciously traced the stranger’s skin. A bit hesitant, but got more sure when he heard the man giggled and allowed him to do so.

“You kissed me, and allow me to do the same,” Jun said as he felt those plump lips under his touch.

The man giggled. “Please.”

Just when Jun’s lips was about to touch the man’s lips, the light turned on, sending the hall in a sudden happy and relieved cheer. Both Jun and the man shut their eyes at the sudden brightness. When they opened their eyes, they realized they were already in a corner far from the rest of the people in the hall. Jun’s gaze returned to his dance partner and his eyes widened in surprise.

“Se… Senpai?!!”

The man smiled victoriously, “Long time no see, Matsumoto Jun-kun.”

“I-I shall take back what I just said. I’m… I’m sorry!”

“Take back what?”

“Never mind.”

“About the kiss?”

Jun couldn’t help but looked away and nodded. His heart was beating like crazy. He never expected to meet again with his Senpai, that Sakurai-senpai, in this kind of party. “Yes, that. I take it back.”

“Too late.”

Sakurai grabbed his hand, dragging him outside the hall quietly, to the darkness of the night.

To a real dance in the dark.

A/N: okay I was re-watching Johnny’s medley the other day, and for some reason Kamen Butoukai got stuck in my head, thus this weird story was born. @_@
And while writing, for some reason Hit the Floor and Dance in the Dark kept replaying inside my head, so… the story advanced to this, and the title became like that.
I made lots of change here and there to avoid making another story like my previous fic “Mouthfeel”… xD
enjoy~
