shi sunsaeng and her flower hair clip. ♥

"This won't do" Kyung-jin says to her reflection. "This won't do at all."

She sighs and fingers her bangs, harshly cut to one side at her wish to appear more strict, edgy as a teacher. And look where she is now...

"I just scare people" she sighs.

Namely, a one Kang Oh Hyuk.

She gets up from her dresser. She's done with it. Doing anything now won't help the hair situation. And besides, she has a sneaking suspicion that it's not just her hair that Kang sunsaeng doesn't like.

She exits her room and enters the kitchen. There's coffee brewing already. She wants it black and, as she pours some into her cup, she scowls at the sugar and cream.

"Kyung-jin ah" comes a low, smooth voice.

"Yes father?"

"Ah!"

Even her father can get a little scared of her haircut and eyeliner.

"Sharper than usual, isn't it?" her father asks, gesturing at his eye.

She gives him a scathing look.

"Not really."

They go to work separately.

When Kyung-jin is coming back from work, she gives into temptation. She stops at a hair accessory store. There are so many pretty, colorful things. Such a contrast to her harsh, black get-up.

She beelines toward the huge flower clips.

"Ahjumma? How much is this one?"

"Nine thousand won" she says without looking.

Kyung-jin frowns. Sure, she doesn't come very often, but she's a regular customer in her own right. She decides she could probably haggle and get up to two thousand won off.

She doesn't though and pays full price. When she pays without trying to make a deal, the ahjumma looks at her with wonder.

"Oh" she says. "It's you."

Kyung-jin smiles like a pre-pounce kitty.

"Yes, it's me again. I'll be back soon."

And she better remember my business next time, she thinks to herself. She pockets the plastic package and it crinkles inside her suit pants. She doesn't look at it properly until she gets home and is in the safety of her own room.

Inside the depths of her walk-in closet, there is a bureau with a special drawer. She opens it slowly, anticipating the sights.

It's filled with hair pins. All of the large flower persuasion. She cackles with glee and even claps her hands together lightly. She quickly reaches into her pocket and retrieves the new one. It gleams because she bought one with rhinestones this time.

She lovingly places it in her hair. It sweeps her bangs up. She doesn't look so harsh now, does she? In fact, she looks kind of like a child. A child...in love.

Kang Oh Hyuk, thinks Kyung-jin.

She puts the clip back into the drawer. It'll probably never be used properly.

"Stupid Kang Oh Hyuk and his stupid first love" Kyung-jin says aloud.

"Kyung-jin ah! Kyung-jin ah, dinner!"

Her father's voice resonates from downstairs. She slams the drawer shut and races from the walk-in closet. She clears her throat hurriedly.

"Coming!" she yells. "I'll be there in a second."

She takes one last look in the mirror before she goes down to the dining room. She takes a tissue and rubs at the ends of her eyeliner. Perhaps it is a little sharp today. And she decides that maybe, just maybe, if she proceeds in baby steps, she can one day wear the hair pins with confidence.

She smiles, holds her head up high, then joins her father for dinner.
