I have been a busy bee. Since last update, Z is down here, we are moving out of the cabin on the 5th into a real apartment (rent-controlled, low-income housing, but it's bigger than 400 square feet), and I've interviewed at Brazosport College (desktop tech until at least August, but a 180 mile daily commute) and Aker Solutions (tractor operator down wells, like Schlumberger but better paying and lower stress). I also got the stock air cleaner back on. Brazosport fell apart on the practical portion, there was a build-a-system-from-scratch and they chose a standard-issue Dell Optiplex that took me a little bit to figure out and I ran out of time when it wouldn't POST and I had to start swapping RAM modules through. Oh well. Aker went GREAT until the interviewer came out and saw me still (an hour and a half later) sitting in my POS in the visitor lot with the hood up to let the starter cool down. It was a slightly awkward conversation. 12 minutes after he walked off, the car started.

Things to do: Draw wiring diagram for relay and take it to another garage--no half-assed measures. Tired of the issue. Get a timing light and set the advance where it should be, not to 'as high as I can get away with'. Proceed to adjust fast idle and normal idle and mixture to suit--I still think the damn idle jet is too small but I need to try to get it running to spec before I keep half-assing parts at it by ear.

Things here are.....interesting. Z's not sure if he's staying and keeps waffling between here, his dad in Oregon, and his mom in Hawaii (they moved just last week after the house was foreclosed after all.) I'm trying to hold it all together. I don't have a lot of spare time lately but everything's still more or less OK.

Edited to add: It should be noted that the negative incidents in the interviews do not necessarily reflect a negative outcome. Being a perfectionist, they're what I note and recall rather than the good bits--which was absolutely everything else. I estimate my chances with the college at ~66-75% and my chances with Aker in the 80s.
