I decided that from now on I am going to go outside for at least an hour every day.
this is because:
a)I fear that I may slip into a small bit of depression if I do not leave our apartment for days on end, and
b) pretty soon I'm going to be stuck indoors because it becomes too unbearably hot to go outside
so, yesterday I:
walked to the beach
laid in the sun for a bit
went for a swim
walked to starbucks
sat outside and had some lunch
walked home
walked to the grocery store, and
walked home
:)
it was a nice day. I have a little sunburn on my back (it's hard for me to get the sunblock back there without help!) but it's tolerable.
I made enchiladas for dinner and after we ate noah suggested that we go to the mall so that we could go to the grocery store. I know I had already been to the store, but it's difficult to carry a lot home. We were out of water and it's such a long way to cary heavy gallons of water that I punked out. So we went to the mall and noah got a travel coffee mug that he can use for work and I purchased 3 paperback books. I know that I have a kindle, but I don't like to take it to the beach. I'm pretty sure the sun/water/sand are probably not good for it and I like to read on the beach. So... I picked up:
the kite runner ~ khaled hosseini
the welsh girl ~ peter ho davies
the interpretation of murder ~ jed rubenfeld
usually I like to pick up light "junk food books" for reading on the beach. stuff like mystery thrillers and silly girly "chick lit". I dont know why this time I chose books with actual substance. I am excited for the interpretation of murder though, it is (surprise, surprise) a murder mystery.
we also went to starbucks because I had a delicious raspberry blackcurrant smoothie with my lunch and I wanted another one noah to try one. sadly they were out of the raspberry blackcurrant and only had the mango passionfruit. I am alergic to mangoes so I am weary of trying things with mango in them. but it seems to me that it's only fresh mangoes (pineapples also) that cause my throat to close up. so, noah let me finish his smoothie when I was dissatisfied with my iced carmel mocha. yup, I still don't like coffee. I'm sad that none of the starbucks here have the shaken iced tea lemonade. I miss those! in fact, they don't even have iced tea. They have ice and they have tea... but I suppose the concept of iced tea is beyond them.
after we left the mall we went on a mini adventure to try and find a gas station. noah has a gps and before we left he paid $200 to d/l the maps for the UAE. I fully encouraged this because as I have said before, my husband is a bit directionally challenged. so, we pull up points of interest, pull up fuel stations, select the nearest one, and hit GO!. now, if we were home in the US, this would have worked. not so much here in dubai. here the roads change so often with the surrounding construction that it is somewhat difficult to follow them. anywhere. we struck out completely on the first gas station. the gps just lead us in circles around dark roads that were all under heavy construction and then when it finally dumped us back on the main highway, although the gas station was right on that road, it had NO entrance. strike ONE. so then we decided to try and find another one. this again lead us on a wild goose chase through overpasses and underpasses and roundabouts and turns. we accidentaly ended up on the palm somehow. it was kinda neat to see the palm but it brought us no closer to a gas station. luckily we backtracked and ended up back on the main road and were able to spot a station that we could actually get to. success! it shouldn't take 20 minutes to find a gas station, right? good news is that gas is $0.60 a gallon. hurray for filling up noah's big suv for about $27 usd.
it was a lovely day and a lovely night.
wonder what is in store for us today.
