so...

we've been in dubai for a month today. sometimes it doesn't seem that long and sometimes it seems longer.
we moved out of the hyatt on friday and into an aparment that was both filthy and lacking water. not the ideal sitch.
today things are definitely looking up, for we have the following:

a couch
a dining room table and chairs
a washer/dryer
an air mattress
water!

civilization! hurrah!

we made spaghetti for dinner and I didn't know food could taste so good. I've missed home cooked meals.

our apartment is great. it's enormous (1700 sqft) and on the 19th floor. It has two bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, and two balconies. It has a view of the arabian gulf on one side and of the dubai marina on the other. pretty sweet.

since we've been in dubai I've spent most of my time alone. noah's only had 3 days off in the last month and two of them were yesterday and today for the move. it's pretty freakin' lonely but quite liberating at the same time. I've never had to spend so much time with myself and it's been sorta nice.

we've had one great adventure since our arival - we were some of the first round of tourists to go up in the Burj Dubai (worlds tallest building). hopefully this week noah will get a car and we'll be able to go out and really explore. mostly I've just been walking around the marina district and the many, many malls here in dubai. I've also read 8 books this month. Not too shabby.

I just finished Gone with the Wind yesterday and am now about 30% of the way through Shadow of the Wind. noah asked me if I was reading only books about wind. it was just a coincidence though, really. I had never read Gone with the Wind before and expected to enjoy it more. So many people have such nice things to say about it... I had to put it down half way through because of how much I hated Scarlett O'Hara. I didn't identify with her, or root for her, or enjoy her at all during the 1000 page book. I admit that it's beautifully written. I very much appreciate the historical fiction genre (it is my favorite). I just didn't really enjoy this book. It made me frusterated and sad. Margaret Mitchell was interviewed and said that the book's overall theme was survival... but I think it was so unbelievably sad. maybe that's just me.

anyhow. I should get going to bed now. I just wanted to share a bit about my current adventures.
