It's My Birthday!

Well, not right now, but it will be in less than two months. And with the slow addition of friends who have jobs or are getting married, it seems like something as trivial as a night of celebration might need to be scheduled in advance.

What exactly am I talking about? A downtown bar crawl for my birthday this year.

It'll be my second birthday while living in Detroit, the first of which living down-freaking-town. What better way to show your friends that downtown Detroit isn't as scary as the media - or your white family members - would suggest than by inviting people you know to have fun in said town.

Right now, only the idea has been tossed at me, via Jeanette. While she said she could put this thing together at no cost, she was drinking at the time and I am suspect of her intentions. We all still live to earn a buck, y'all. Still, I'm quite willing to call her up on it. And the idea stemmed from the fact that not many people come and visit, even just to go out and drink. I mean, yes, I have two cats so if you have allergies you might not want to step inside and yes, my apartment is void of a TV making for sad-Pillboxer time during NHL playoffs, and yes, I still don't have a couch. But I do have a bookcase!

In inviting all of my friends - hint, if you're reading this, you're probably invited - this brings about potential snafus. Mainly, no one lives within a 10 mile radius of me. For once, I wouldn't have to drive, yippee. However, other people would. From Pennsylvania, Florida (yes, you guys totally need to come visit, I visited first, now it's your turn), and of course, Downriver. Because of this, a hotel room or two (or four) would probably be the best bet.

My birthday is on a Thursday, so I guess I should put in for that Friday off. I don't imagine an all day bender, hell no. There will be a Tigers game that day but it won't start until 7pm. That means it won't end until 10pm which means that a prime block of entertainment time will have been wasted at a ballgame. Although, what the fuck more else can you do in Detroit with out of towners? Sure, go to the DIA - which could be done during the morning/noon. Maybe walk around Belle Isle a bit. Perhaps take a stroll through Mexican Town.

After that, the bars. Getting in good with at least one bar tender, being former roomates with someone who can get free drinks with someone at Greektown (who sounds like she might be in California during my birthday), and recently meeting a person who apparently knows every bar owner in the CBD, I don't think we'll have a tough place deciding where to go.

To shore up the evening, there are a couple of options. One, herd everyone back to their hotel rooms and wear off the buzz a bit. Maybe watch a movie or something. Or before that, hit up City Club. I just went there this past Friday and boy, it was interesting. I should have been going there to look for my mate for these past two years. Or maybe not as I might be able to seen in public with jokers like that.

So that's that, how's it sound?
