"Good morning, Mrs. Weasley," Hermione said as soon as she climbed out of the Weasley's fireplace.
"Good morning, dear. I hope you enjoyed Christmas." After spending Christmas Eve at the Burrow, Hermione and Ron left to spend the night and Christmas Day at the Grangers. It had been a new experience for Ron, who had never stayed with Muggles before. He had been nervous at first, but her parents made him feel comfortable enough to be himself. Of course, he had acted like a gentleman, wanting to impress her parents, and had been very careful about any public displays of affection.
"It was lovely, thank you. My parents have insisted that you and Mr. Weasley should come to dinner soon."
Mrs. Weasley smiled warmly at her. "We will. I'm sure Arthur will love it. I'll owl your mum after the new year."
"She'll be happy to hear from you."
"Ron is playing with Victoire in the living area. Go on ahead,"
Hermione gave Mrs. Weasley a hug before making her way to Ron. During the Christmas Eve get together at the Burrow, they had agreed to baby-sit Victoire on Boxing Day while Bill and Fleur accompanied the Delacours on a trip to Diagon Alley.
As soon as she stepped into the living room, her heart warmed up at the sight of Ron. He was sprawled long on the sofa with Victoire sitting on his chest and giggling happily. She had pulled some of the colorful tinsel from the Christmas tree on her left and was now decorating Ron.
"You think that's funny, don't you?" he asked, tickling her belly. "How about decorating you, eh?"
With one hand holding Victoire, he used his other hand to reach for more tinsel and used it as a color string around her neck. Victoire looked down at the tinsel in awe. "Like Momma."
"Yeah, your mum wears pretty necklaces, too."
Hermione walked towards the happy pair and unconsciously caressed the ring on her left hand. Now that they had concrete plans to get married, the dream of having a family with Ron seemed more real than ever. She had no doubt he was going to be a wonderful father.
"Having fun you two?"
"Hello, love."
"Hello, Victoire," she said leaning down to pick her up. "Is your Uncle Ron being good to you?"
"Silly Ron," she said, hugging Hermione by the neck and giving her a small kiss.
"Yes, he's a silly one."
"Hey, I object."
"I'm only kidding; you're wonderful with her."
He blushed slightly at her compliment. "So what do you say we take this little girl outside and play on the snow."
"Sure, let me just put a warmer coat on her."
As they made their way out to the snow-covered garden, Hermione could easily imagine this same scenario... only instead of Victoire, there was a pretty little girl with red curls and blue eyes. Yes, her future with Ron had never seemed more real. She couldn't wait!
