The best six euros I've spent in a while...

I was at my computer Wednesday afternoon, with nothing in particular to do (nothing I wanted to do, anyway). Boredom + the internets = randomness. Yes? So I'm just checking 45's website for this weekend's event schedule. I notice that some band called Manboy is playing Thursday evening. Never heard of them. But I'm bored enough to click the link to their site. And then I somehow end up on the band's myspace, and hear Velvet (quite Interpol-y, one might say, this song  Putting it up here in case any of you crazy kids might be interested *shrug*). Now I, of course, need to hear more. Their website is very obliging in this matter. Me like. New, good music = a happy Sari.

So, now there's this new band that I, based on what I've heard so far, like. This band is also coming to Oulu the day after I started listening to them. I don't know anybody else who likes them, and going to clubs (even gigs) alone is not my idea of a good time. So what do I do? Two hours before the gig is supposed to start I finally decide that, what the hell, I'll go. At this point I, of course, don't even have any idea how much the tickets are. Whatever.

I almost freeze my ass off (well, not really. Actually, I was so bundled up I probably resembled an eskimo. So actually I didn't really get cold at all) getting to 45, where I proceed to sit in a corner for an hour reading Brokeback Mountain, waiting for the upstairs to be opened. Pathetic much? =) When I finally get upstairs, I commandeer a stool next to the light and sound boards, with a great view of the stage. Score!

Anyway, I'm not really even sure what I was expecting from the gig. I'd liked the few songs that I'd heard before, but I also knew they'd most likely be playing material from the new album, so... Also, you can never really know what a band will sound like live based on just album material. Whatever I was expecting, I was just blown away. These guys are bloody amazing. Even with 45's PA being what it is, they sounded incredibly good. The singer was just so on, the guitarist was really entertaining to watch, and I probably would have paid just for a chance to stare at the drummer for an hour and a half - wait, what?

Oh, and in the encore, they covered NIN's Hurt. Wheee!

I think I could go on gushing about them for quite a while, but I'm frankly getting a bit too tired to write even somewhat sensibly.

Nighty night, and don't Panic (or actually, please go ahead, if you feel like it)

P.S. Sorry for the rambliness, neeed sleeep.

oh-em-ef-gee, music
