Paradox

The following statement is true. The previous statement was false.

An apparent contradiction; a paradox; where the end brings you right back to the beginning.

On Yamashita Tomohisa’s 24th birthday, he wished that he never existed.

Birthday wishes were special as they were reversible though not by the person themselves. But for such a wish, a wish where no one would remember him for no one had ever known him. For such a wish, it seemed impossible. But, birthday wishes were special.

Yamashita Tomohisa became an apparition. In fact, he soon realized he had become everyone else’s shadow. Apparently, the wish required him to realize what would happen if Yamashita Tomohisa were never to have been born into this world. If Yamapi never existed, what would happen to the world?

He followed his mother around the visibly bigger house. He sees a man, her husband but not his father. She smiled to his smile, she laughed to his laughs. She was happier perhaps but he doesn’t see his sister. So with him going, so did she. As he begins to apologize, he begins to forget her existence too.

He followed Kato Shigeaki around the familiar Johnny’s building. He was glad that Johnny’s entertainment was running well without him. He sees Shige walking up to the usually smiley Koyama and kiss him on the cheek rather bashfully.  He blinked in surprise but acknowledges as he follows Koyama out of the building. Koyama was meeting Ryo Chan as the new leader of NEWS.

Ryo Chan did not smile as he saw Koyama approach.  Koyama passes him the recording schedule for the month and Ryo was gone. Yamapi felt rather uncomfortable at the silence as he follows Ryo to his apartment. So NEWS still existed, but NEWS didn’t really exist anymore.

Ryo walked past Massu the next day, Massu grinned at the older boy and Ryo nodded in return. Ryo exchanges a few words with the younger boy which Yamapi could not hear. Something about Tegoshi. Yamapi frowns as he accompanies Massu into the cafeteria.  He had forgotten about Tegoshi too.

He followed Massu for the following days and found his affection for the younger boy growing. He found his habits rather endearing; his gestures more extroverted. So without Yamapi, there was Massu, the new mood maker. It was surprising that Koyama was sitting in the corner and glaring at Ryo who just glared back. And still, he wonders about Tegoshi.

He saw Tegoshi the next day. Massu had waved enthusiastically while the youngest just smiled. It was a weak smile that left Yamapi feeling rather cold. He could not remember what Tegoshi smiled like but a vague feeling reminded him that Tegoshi didn’t smile like that.

He followed Tegoshi through a tiring rehearsal and followed him home after that. He followed Tegoshi into his room and watched as Tegoshi locks it and cries. Yamapi doesn’t understand but as he listens it seemed clear; Ryo Chan and Tegoshi. He sighed as he listened to Tegoshi sob and choke. Ryo Chan still did not love Tegoshi, even without him around.

It was Tegoshi Yuuya’s 22rd birthday that day and Tegoshi Yuuya wished for someone who could love him.

Yamapi woke up on the day before his 24th birthday, remembering everything.

It was 11.59pm and a message had just come in.

<“LEADER! TANJOUBI OMEDETOU~! “>

He calls the boy, laughing.

“It’s too early, stupid.”

There was silence for a minute.

“HAPPY BATHDAY LEADER~ we’re all glad that you were born today!” The younger boy chuckles.

“Arigatou, Tegoshi, so am I.”

Birthday wishes were special for they were reversible; to the end and back to the beginning.
