There was once an old man who worked at the post office. He did not particularly hate his job, but granted it was a job void of smiles but there was one thing that never failed to remind him of why he loved his job so much. A lone letter that came everyday reminded him of what letters were first sent for, that lone letter that made him smile.
It began almost 2 years ago or maybe longer. It had been so long and so frequent it seemed that his mind could no longer keep up. He remembered how a letter used to come in everyday, a letter that had no name, no address. Of course, he obeyed postal rules and did not open them, placing them carefully in a box next to his table with all the other lost letters with no destination.
Day after day, Temptation grew harder to ignore. He decided to open one, just a look, and a peek; so he could attach a name to that nameless letter. He could still remember what it said even if he had long forgotten the date.
<‘To the someone who may read this,
It’s nice to talk to you again, my dear friend. I suppose you’d want to hear about today as well? It was more painful than yesterday.
He had his arm around that girl today; she was very pretty…Well endowed too. But one could see that she was a kind girl, she would probably somebody’s good wife. He smiled happily as he introduced her to us and she smiled the angelic smile that belongs solely to girls. We were all charmed, even me. You couldn’t help but smile back at her for she was just so perfect; she is just the girl he needs. I just want him to be happy…but that doesn’t mean I can’t be sad right?
And the saddest part would probably be that unlike with the other girls, I can’t hate her just because she was so perfect. I want to be a girl. I want to be able to smile like that too.
My dear friend, I hope you’ll forgive my selfishness. I trust my secret only to you for you are the only one who would listen.

He remembered how he closed the letter and put it in a box, a new box together that now had a label. ‘Tegoshi Yuuya’
There were days when the letters were filled with sunshine.
<’ To the someone who may read this,
I have the best news! He asked me to go for dinner with him today, alone! We had so much fun just talking and drinking. I almost confessed. But that wouldn’t be fair to Yukari-Chan at all. After all, he was her boyfriend. I could never do that.
He sent me home tonight, and well… He kissed me on the forehead before driving me off. He’s always done that and it still leaves butterflies in my stomach. But it’s probably just a fatherly gesture. I should think too much of it.
He even messaged me before sleeping. It was a warm goodnight and I’ve saved it carefully in the folder I saved just for him. I hope there will be more days like this, ne?
My dearest friend, please don’t think I’m childish! I’m trying my best to move on with each day!
I hope tomorrow will be another good day! Good night to you too and sleep tight~!

The old man remembered laughing that day, happy for the young boy. He remembered placing this letter into the special box saved for him.
He remembered the first time he had found out the other man’s name, he remembered the letter clearly. He knew it went like this.
<’To the someone who may read this,
I found out from Ryo that the man I had loved so much had loved me. He had loved me but had given up on me. I wish I had known, I wish I had confessed. But, my dear friend, I was scared then and am still scared even now.
Aren’t we silly? How we circle each other time and time again but have never intersected? I wonder if its fate?
But I believe that we can be together, I’ll pluck up my courage and maybe one day I’ll confess to him; To Yamashita Tomohisa.

The old man had taken a risk that day and had looked through the databases to find the other man’s address. He clipped it on the box in case of an emergency and there it remained, on faded paper waiting for use.
The old man smiled as he tore open today’s special letter.
<’To the someone who may read this,
There is talk about marriage. Yukari Chan and him. There was a proposal.
What should I do?
What am I talking about, you can’t answer me… I need help, from anyone, I need help.
Please…
Tegoshi Yuuya’>
The old man wrapped up the box; he scribbles the address frantically and posts it. He hopes for the best and waits.
The old man grows anxious day after day without a letter. Until one day, a bright yellow envelope catches his eye. It was addressed to a ‘someone who may read it’. He ripped it open and found only photographs.
They were photographs of two men in their twenties, one with a perfectly angelic smile and the other with sharp eyes that seemed to trace it. He grinned as he sees pictures of them cooking. He laughs as he sees the younger boy pouting and the dismayed look on the older man’s face. He sighs as he watches the younger boy grin with a look of pure happiness and he feels happy as he sees the other boy smile back, his sharp eyes turned gentle.
There was a small thank you scribbled on the other side of the last photograph that had been taken in a park, two of them walking hand in hand, back turned to the camera.
Yes, both Yamashita Tomohisa and Tegoshi Yuuya were moving on. But now, they will live each day together.
