Title: Childish Amusements
Words:530
Rating: PG
Pairing/Characters: Pike/Number One
Summary: Shore leave is the perfect time to be a little ridiculous
Notes/Warnings: FLUFF. For schmoop_bingo square 'amusement park'. Soooo much sap and dorkitude.

It started on shore leave (didn't it always?)

The Yorktown has been docked for 2 days so far and the everyone is taking in the sights. There's a carnival-fair-park thing and it's too early to go drinking and too nice outside to waste the time on ship or holed up in the hotel. Or so Pike convinces Number One over breakfast.

Well, One would be perfectly happy going for a swim but Pike wheedles her along into agreement and before long they're at the thing and they're daring each other to go on rides. Pike is trying to explain the wonders of overly fried and greasy fair food as Number One raises an elegant and skeptical eyebrow. They agree the Ferris wheel is all right (and very good for quick kisses and whispers), the tilt a whirl unfortunately reminiscent of a free falling shuttle(and not good after eating, 'You're looking a little green...'), and the spinning teacups sparked what turned into an hour long debate on relativistic physics that neither could win.

Then they reach the midway.

At first One scoffs at the games "They're rigged Chris, really," which he takes as a challenge and is suddenly determined to beat them. A few tries and he wins her a little and awkward, but sort of cute stuffed they-don't-actually-know-what, but it is blue with large ears and wibbly eyes. Even Number One has to admit it's sort of satisfying to have won.

From there what devolves can only be expected to happen.

One wins him a violently orange stuffed thing to match hers. Then he gets a terrible hat that he makes her wear. So she wins a feather boa and drapes it across him in retaliation and it just keeps snowballing until there at too many things to carry and they lost count of who had won what.

"I declare this a success," Pike smiles widely and they both laugh. They both look ridiculous. After a few moments of 'oh god what do we do with all this, they start handing off their prizes to passing empty handed children. One watches as Pike hands off one of the last few, his smile is infectious. Chris ruffles the little boy's hair and shares a nod with the parents.

They're down to the last two, they start walking and Pike takes her arm in a practiced motion. "Figure we should keep these two?" he asks, pretending nonchalance.

One looks quickly to him then away, "Well, it would be a pity not to keep some souvenir. We'll need proof to prove our story after all," she answers, "Besides, they look very nice together. It'd be a pity to separate them."

"It would. They should stay together," he replied, a finger tracing patterns on her arm as he keeps his eyes forward.

"Yes, they should," One took hers and moved it next to Chris', their arms and stuffed toys entangled.

"You getting hungry? We could get dinner, something not deep fried even."

"If you can find somewhere that will serve all four of us," she deadpans. Chris chuckles at the smug looks she flashes him.

"I'll see what I can do about that."
