I forgot to post this the other day but I've officially completed an entire jdrama series (Hana Nochi Hare) via livestreaming! Boy, was it hard.
The weekly episodes I could deal with since I've been watching ongoing seasonal anime for a couple of years now. I thought that watching it raw would give me grief since I'm not that well versed in Japanese but it surprisingly wasn't that bad. I was still able to get the gist of what was going on in each episode so I'd consider it successful i'd like to thank koshien for training me to listen more closely to what's being said so as to be able to identify keywords. Besides, I'm planning on watching it again when it gets subbed anyway so I didn't mind not fully processing everything.
Astonishingly, the most difficult part of watching this series was actually the timezone. The reason for that is because my family kept traveling during that period since it's summer vacation. Where I'm permanently based is only an hour behind JST so I saw the first two episodes at 9pm. On the third week, we were in Bangkok so I was behind by another hour (8pm). Went back to 9pm for another two weeks before heading to the US. Since we lived in the east coast, it's 13hrs behind JST (9am). We then went to the west coast for a week so I was behind by another 3hrs (6am). For the next three weeks I was back to EST (9am) then on the finale I was back to where I started at 9pm (I went a full circle!)
As you can see, I was really determined to finish this series. Despite all the difficulties that arose, I was still able to watch every single episode. Truthfully speaking, my main driving force was to avoid spoilers. Based on experience, those things can really ruin a show for me so I'm glad I got through this without hiccup. Overall, I enjoyed hanahare and am very pleased with how memorable this experience was although I don't think I'm going to be doing this again any time soon.
